Meet Sassy Cat

YOU MUST HAVE AN APPROVED APPLICATION IN ORDER TO SET UP A TIME TO MEET OUR PETS.

Sassy Cat is, well, not much of a sassy cat. In fact, he is very much a terrified, unsocialized, probably abused cat who, after many months in our shelter, has decided that he likes one person here very much and remains terrified of everyone else.

He came to us from a very pitiful situation. He and a senior Chihuahua mix in very poor shape were living huddled together in an outdoor dog house. The dog could not even walk at rescue and had a huge tumor but he is now doing great and is happy in a wonderful new home.

The dog was very sweet and it was clear that feral Sassy Cat found comfort in his companionship. So, Sassy Cat is now healthy and comfortable with us, with no need to worry about anything, but still, he worries.

The third picture was taken during the rescue night so you can see how bad the situation was. Two very sad animals just trying to stay warm over the winter.

Sassy Cat is only about 2 years old and a handsome boy. He is a healthy 9.5 pounds now.

While he acted totally feral when he first came to us, he is now showing no aggression at all and has learned to love one of our staff members who has taken lots of time to work with him. He is very friendly to her and likes to be touched by her. Otherwise, he asks that everyone stay on the other side of his glass door so that he feels safe.

When approached, he stays very quiet, huddled against the wall, and will retreat into himself by closing an eye or two, putting back his ears, tilting his head down, and trying hard to be invisible. He reminds us of an animal that might have been abused but was unable to flee, just had to sit there and take it. Of course, that is all speculation.

We are being honest with you because we would REALLY love for this cat to have a chance at living a relatively normal life as a cherished pet. However, it will take a special, patient, cat savvy person who can do this for him. He will either like and trust you over time or he will not. We do want any adopter to know that, should you want to help this young cat and turn his life around, but worry it might not work out, go ahead and take the chance since we will always take him back into rescue should it not work out.

Sassy Cat does seem to be interested in dogs, probably because he found such comfort in the dog he was rescued with. If you have a gentle, small dog who might enjoy a quiet cat around, maybe Sassy Cat would feel braver and enjoy your home. When we bring dogs into the cat room to see how they react around cats, Sassy Cat always curiously watches and will come closer to his glass door to check out the dog. He acts calm when he sees a nice dog. Maybe he is remembering his old friendship with the Chihuahua mix.

Because he is a special needs kind of guy, we would even consider applicants who were looking for a barn cat or similar. He just deserves a better life than the awful, neglected one he came from.

Adoption donation $25.
