Meet Reo

Hi, Reo here, and you have probably heard about me...I don't mean that to sound vain, it is just that I sort of became internet famous when my friends at Fetching Tails Foundation rescued me! Back at the end of January, two Chicago police officers found me tied to a fence looking like a hot mess, and my sad story garnered a lot of attention and support. Thanks to many generous donations and lots of loving TLC, I am fully recovered from my injuries and am ready to find a forever home! So I think it is high time for me to tell you a little bit about the “real me” and what I love about life!

My humans believe I am a cockapoo mix around 10 years of age, but aren't sure what else I could be mixed with. To be honest with you, I look like I am mixed with a teddy bear: I have fluffy toffee-colored hair and it is so soft to the touch; my foster family can't help but snuggle with me when they look at me and I totally dig it! I love to eat and am now tipping the scales at 23 pounds. Foster mommy says that I probably shouldn't get any heavier so she is regulating how many treats I get these days to help me keep a healthy figure. But she knows how much I love to snack (it is one of my favorite activities!) now that I am receiving high-quality, healthy food for the first time in a very long time, so I get a few small meals through the day every few hours to keep me happy. I am also very unique and one-of-a-kind because I now have a permanent happy, winky face! I had to have one of my eyes removed because of trauma, and I am feeling SO much better now that it is gone! I have very limited sight in my remaining eye (it has a cataract), but I adapt very quickly to my surroundings and figure out the layout quickly.

So what am I looking for in a forever home? That is a very good question! The most important thing to me is that I have humans that I can be around all the time. I do not like to be left alone, and like at least one of my humans to be nearby so I feel safe. Since I am mostly deaf as well, I need my humans to touch me or lightly tug on my leash every once in awhile so I know they are still with me. Maybe a retired couple who is home a lot would enjoy my company? I enjoy car rides so I could even go along with you on errands. I would also love to have a fenced yard that I can explore. I love to spend as much time outside as possible; I hop around (as you might remember from the news stories about me, I am missing a paw on my back leg...it doesn't bother me and I have adapted to get around pretty easily! My foster family also says I am very fast when I want to be!) and sniff all the fun smells; I also love to roll in the grass and just take a nap on my outdoor dog bed! I get along better with calm dogs (excited, hyper dogs make me nervous), but would also be content as your one and only canine companion. Since I also like a calm home, I think I would do better with kiddos who are older and can understand my special needs. More than anything, I just want a human companion who will love me and shower me with affection!

I have great house manners: I am totally potty trained and let my humans know I need to go potty by going to the door and barking. I don't chew on things I am not supposed to, and other than being outside and snacking, my favorite activity is taking a nap on the couch with my person or on the floor near her feet. I think it might be better if my forever home is a single-family house instead of a condo or townhouse because I kind of “tell stories” a lot to let my humans know if I need something, and I would hate to bother the neighbors too much. Overall, I am a very loving, very happy cuddly little guy, and after the life I have had, I would more than anything love a forever home with humans who will dote on me and provide me the love I have missed and longed for for so long. If you think you could be the special family willing to give a special older gentleman like me the perfect home, please get in touch with my friends at Fetching Tails Foundation and tell them Reo is the handsome fellow for you!

Cuddles and kisses,
Reo
