If you’re looking for an easy, extremely loving Velcro couch potato, Allie is your girl. She’s a five-year-old dachshund, fully house trained, does not bark, not into running around or playing with toys, she just wants to snuggle all day. She loves ALL people—young, old, strangers on the street—she’s an affection hound and gives everyone kisses. Allie would be fine in a house with another small dog (she avoids larger ones), but people are her priority. Whenever she wants her belly rubbed, which is pretty much constantly, she rolls over and sticks out her chest, as if to say, “here’s the spot, get going!” She can walk on a leash fairly well, though she stops on the street a lot to socialize and/or smell, so she needs some patience.

Allie came to us significantly overweight—she likely was given table scraps--but she’s not really so food oriented; she’d rather have affection. She is now slimming down and doesn’t beg at the table, just eats what she’s given. She’d be great with someone who’s home all day and wants a constant, affectionate companion that’s not going to run any marathons (she’s happy with a walk around the block). She’d be good with families, too, but maybe not active families who want her to fetch a ball. Again, this lady likes to rest and relax and snuggle all day long. She is easy to groom and doesn’t shed much.
