Meet Ozzy

FROM THE WEST VALLEY HUMANE SOCIETY STAFF

Ozzy is improving dramatically! He's going out about 10 times a day. I'm having "strangers" (volunteers that normally don't go in the back) wait until he's quiet, then the gate is opened and he's rewarded by being leashed and going outside. Today we are working on him being quiet and sitting before the gate is opened. He's a quick learner!
West Valley Humane Society Director Karly is committed to work with him and help him through his issues. Let's help!

OZZY IS AVAILABLE FOR FOSTER OR ADOPTION
Dog Trainer Dan of
Emerald Street Kennels assessed Ozzy at the shelter. Dan says:
If Ozzy is handled correctly and given enough space and time, he can definitely make some progress. Being in a kennel is definitely stressing him out and he is very unsure about anyone who approaches him. Once he trusts you he lets down his guard and the real Ozzy starts to come out. But it will take some time for him to start seeing the world in a new light.
When I first approached Ozzy in his kennel he was exhibiting fearful body language. I walked him passed some dogs and he didn't react to them at all.
Once outside I gave Ozzy some space so he could earn my trust. Eventually he started approaching me with a wagging tail. He gently took a treat from me. He let me pet him as well.
Ozzy knows how to sit if you have a treat but he will need help with his other commands. He is very skittish and will need a slow approach with people and dogs. We need to give Ozzy time and space to learn that the world is not a scary place. Only experienced handlers should work with Ozzy at this point. We should let Ozzy approach us several times before we start interacting with him. He is only a year old. Please refer to www.boisebullybreedrescue.com and fill out an application if interested. The rescue will cover a training package with Dog Trainer Dan Harjes at 516-603-0499
