Meet Blind Willie

Breed: Borzoi/Mastiff Mix
DOB: 2015
Sex: Neutered male
Weight: 70 pounds

(See me and all my relatives at http://apbdogs.org/sighthounds-mixes/)

When Willie came into rescue, he had most of his sight. Unfortunately it has been diminishing to where he mostly sees just shadows now. The good news is that he has been adjusting to losing his sight so well that we didn't even realize it at first. The bad news is that his condition is Progressive Retinal Atrophy and there is no cure. Also, since he was shy before losing most of his sight, he has not gotten over his timid behavior in new situations as quickly as a fully sighted dog would. He will bond to a new owner though as long as you have patience to give him time.

Like many sighthounds and mastiffs, he loves attention and once in the house, he is is just a couch potato. Outside, he will run with other dogs and play with them. He does enjoy the company of other dogs and does okay with smaller dogs. He met a cat and seemed to ignore it and a few of his relatives have been adopted to homes with cats and they are doing well.

Willie likes his crate and often goes in it either to nap or just to lay there and watch what is going on. After he visited the ophthalmologist, he visited a home where he had never been. He was the perfect gentleman with the humans and dogs and only once tried to check out the food on the table.

He is really a borzoi and bull mastiff mix. A dna test was donated so his relative Krysta was tested. She is 62% borzoi and 38% bull mastiff.
