Meet Captain

When Captain was rescued the first time he was found dirty, matted, worn down, covered in ticks and fleas and there was something very wrong with one of his eyes. He was so weak that his head had to be propped up to take pictures. When taken to the vet after being rescued it was discovered that Captain had Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. Captain was treated and beat the RMSF. Then it was learned that his right eye never fully developed and that it was causing him pain. It was decided that that it was best to have Captain’s eye removed. Actually losing the eye was how he became named, Captain.

Captain was quickly adopted and found a home where everything was wonderful! He was loved, got plenty of exercise and became a favorite at all the local doggie daycares and canine events. Captain was and still is exceptional with his people, canine and feline friends. Captain’s home was perfect, including the two human babies that had joined the family. Captain was very comfortable and loved the new additions. Captain had his home for five years.

The babies grew and when they began to walk, or rather wobble, it became clear that Captain was becoming more and more unsure. However, Captain still adored his human siblings and loved to watch television with them or sit with them while they listened to their bedtime stories. But with the children becoming more mobile and rambunctious, they were also becoming more likely to corner and startle Captain (especially on his blind side). Captain grew anxious, and was no longer his low-key, easy-going self and it became clear that this was no longer a good situation for Captain or the kids.

This is why Captain is at STAF. Really nothing he could have changed. One-eyed dogs and wobbly toddlers are probably never a good combo. Best that Captain's next home is small-children-free.

Captain is a gorgeous and loving boy inside in out. You’ll feel it when you meet him, Captain has always been an undemanding and cool-gentle soul to be around; he hasn’t met a stranger. He loves to take long walks with the volunteers, is back attending doggie daycare and Captain never complains.

Our goal is to try our hardest to make sure that Captain’s next home is his home of a lifetime. Captain deserves nothing less.

Captain’s estimated birth date is December 2010
