Doogie is a four year old male chihuahua mix.

He is in fantastic health and is up to date on all vaccinations and received his most recent annual exam in January. He was either born with nerve damage in his front left arm, or was injured at a very young age and did not properly heal, therefore he walks with a small limp. Nonetheless, he is not in pain and assumes all normal, healthy dog activities. Doogie loves to run, chase his ball and can often be found herding the bigger dogs at the dog park. Doogie is a snuggler! He loves couch time and burying deep under the covers when its time for bed. He loves sleeping in sunny spots and receiving cuddles and kisses. He is happiest in the lap of his owner or curled up at the foot of the bed.

Doogie was adopted by my husband and I out of an abusive home three years ago in San Francisco and has received the most love and affection a pup could ask for since the day he was brought home. We had a baby girl over a year ago and it is growing more and more difficult to balance the relationship between the curiosity of our toddler and Doogie's desire to not be on the receiving end of her ever-growing curiosities.

It was with much grief and difficulty that we decided to send him to Wyoming to live with friends that promised an even greater adventure for Doogie, but last minute circumstances have them moving back to New York and they are unable to bring him along. We now find ourselves once again seeking a stable long-term home for Doogie where he will be accepted and unconditionally loved.

Doogie does bite, and can be very protective of his resources and owners. Adoption by an experienced small dog owner who knows how to provide consistent boundaries for dogs that try to walk the line would be the ideal scenario. He can be very anxious in new situations and until he is fully comfortable, and as a result will display anxious behavior such as whining, barking and jumping. Once he knows everyone around him and is comfortable, he is haps as a clam, and is a lover! He craves stability and consistency.

Doogie would not do well in a home with young children or in a home that receives frequent visits from strangers. He is best in an environment with lots of exercise and room to explore, preferably with other dogs or animal siblings as he thrives in a pack dynamic. There are certain bad habits that he falls into once he gains comfort in an environment, but he has such a desire to please; I believe these habits can be broken with consistent and effective training. Doogie has a heart of gold and has the potential of being an incredible companion. If someone were to invest their efforts in Doogie, I know the outcome would be very rewarding.

I would be happy to discuss Doogie further if anyone is interested in taking him on.

Thank you,
Eric and Caroline Richardson
