Meet Marvel

Pupdate - 9-1-2017

Marvel has become friendly with his kitty sibling, he loves everything and everyone, plays well with others, is completely housebroken now, and well, he is just an all around good guy. He will still need a family who will allow him the time to settle into his new home, as it is a huge change, and can be stressful, with everything this guy has been through. He is a typical 3+ year old Bull Terrier though - he is excitable and bouncy, and will need an experienced adopter - someone who knows how to handle a strong breed dog.

FOSTER MOM's PUPDATE . . . 3-25-2017

Marvel is a typical 3 year old Bull Terrier. He is the equivalent of a 3 year old person. He likes to eat, play and snuggle on his own terms. Marvel has lots of energy and would do best in an active home. He has the usual high prey drive that comes with the breed and will need to be in a home with no cats. While he is good with kids, he can be mouthy in play and he could easily knock over small children with his Exuberant bounciness, so his home should have only dog savvy kids over 10. Marvel knows a few basic commands, sit and shake, and is quickly learning to not jump on people. I will say though, his legs are made of springs! He can really get some air. Marvel will need continued training, but he is a wonderful dog and will make a fantastic addition to the right family.

First off, he is very sweet. He likes to snuggle and enjoys being on the sofa. He met one of our cats very briefly and didn't have a reaction. However, when said cat started running around, he immediately went in to terrier mode and chased it. So, I'm going to go ahead and say he is a typical BT that will need a no cat home. I'm also going to say no dogs smaller than him either, his prey drive is probably quite high. He is not fully housebroken, he's peed in the house a few times (expected with new fosters) and we will work on that of course. I doubt he's use to being in a house, so I'm not worried, he will pick it up in no time. When he took his bath he would bite the hose and drink the water. At first, I thought it was aggression, but we went slowly with him and we believe he was just thirsty and may not be use to getting water regularly. He's not guarding his food bowl or chew treats. I've been able to take those things from him with ease. He met our Great Dane very briefly. He was not aggressive, however he only wanted to hump her and she wasn't having that. We will take dog introductions slowly, but we usually let fosters meet the Dane first as she is the most calm and everyone usually gets along with her. He's a good boy though and I have no doubt he will make an excellent companion for someone.

Little Marvel (like the comics) is settling into his foster home. Marvel is an absolute love bug - he LOVES attention! He is sweet and would love to just lay by you, with his head in your lap. He does ride pretty well in the car and isn't bad on a leash, but he does not like to be left alone in the crate or vehicle (even for a minute). He will butt his nose against the crate (as you can see in the pic), and can easily bite through a leash, when left unattended. He has likely had no obedience training, but will be a quick study with some consistency.

Marvel just arrived today, March 5, so we will spend a little time working with him and getting to know him, so that we can find just the right home environment for him. We are accepting applications, but he will not be available immediately.
