Meet Andy

Andy is a 10 year old, Male, Havanese who is sweet, sassy, quirky and looking for his forever home. Due to his sassiness it is necessary for him to be in an adult only home that is fairly calm. He loves attention. Petting and cuddling are at the top of his list. He has become aware of my cats by sniffing them but no aggression towards them. He is adjusting to a dog that is much larger than him but would do better with one his own size and age or no dog at all. He is not a high energy dog and prefers to follow you around the house. He weighs 15 pounds. He is kennel trained, house trained, loves to go for rides and walks. He has bursts of energy as if he is a puppy but this is short lived. When you pick him up he will bury his head into your shoulder and neck. It is a hug from Andy.

His sassy side: He has shown possession aggression with food, toys, treats and his kennel. When he is in his kennel with the door open and he does not want to come out he will raise his lip while growling. To make sure you understand he will also show his teeth. This is a clear signal to just let him be. If he is eating, let him eat alone. Speaking as his foster who has just had him a few days, his aggression he shows is a tiny portion of his day.

His quirky side: Most importantly he panics prior to and during thunderstorms. I’m certain that it is the same for fireworks. Thunder shirts do not work on him and several brands have been tried. He acts goofy when I brush him as if he is having a love hate relationship with the brush.

Medical history: He has had teeth pulled so he requires soft food and treats. He had an ACL injury to his left hind leg in August 2016. Treatment for this is ½ tab of Nutramax Dasaquin in his food daily and Carprofen ½ pill as needed. He gets around very well and doesn’t appear to be in any pain. Andy has no problem getting on the couch or bed or going up/down stairs.

Before applying for this dog, please think the decision over thoroughly and make sure the whole family is in agreement. Owning a dog is a huge responsibility that is not something that should be rushed into. Each dog from Rescued Treasures has been saved from an uncertain future. If you are thinking about adopting, please remember it is a LIFE-LONG commitment. Dogs can live to be at least 14 years old...are you ready to take care of him/her that long?
