Pocket size Stella is a lucky lady. Dogs really just want to love and be loved – it’s not asking much, right? But some never get the chance to show what loving, affectionate, devoted companions they can be. We’re glad we could give Stella that opportunity.
Stella hails from streets south of the border, and she seemed to say, “I’m going to be the best dog ever, just watch!” She’s clearly delighted with her new foster home digs, revels in cuddles, playtime and walks, and isn’t needy. She’s happy to snooze or hang out on her own and we haven’t bothered to crate train her because she’s so well mannered when home alone. She’s not at all destructive, is completely potty trained, has lovely leash manners, and is mild-mannered and social with newcomers on her home turf. She rarely barks too unless it’s an alert to let you know someone’s at the door.
Our cow spotted gal will be an ideal companion for a homebody, or someone who doesn’t need their dog out with them all the time (she’s happy to be a homebody if you aren’t!). Stella’s not the type of pup to take out to breweries or dog beaches. Crowds, noise and lots of strange animals are not her thing but she’s wonderful with calm, balanced dogs in quieter settings. She has quite the prey drive and chasing balls is THE MOST FUN – and so is chasing chickens and any other fleeing critter (such as cats). She’s so aware of her surroundings (a savvy street dog trait!) and thinks the TV is fascinating. She’ll literally watch TV with you, especially if there’s a dog or bird on screen. She prefers romantic comedies to action though – too many explosions harsh her mellow.
And she is mellow.
Stella has that exceptional quality of being able to match the mood of the house. When it’s quiet time, it’s quiet time. If we’re feelin’ frisky, so is she. Her foster mom says she can cut her nails while Stella’s snoozing and she might open an eye but won’t move an inch. Stella doesn’t ask for much and is never demanding. She’s a lover by nature – one of her favorite moves is to cuddle up with her chihuahua foster siblings who normally don’t take kindly to sharing. In the home, she just gets along with everyone. If you need a hug, she’ll let you hold her as long as you need to. It’s hard not to love a dog who is so easygoing and giving, so ready to be your friend.
Vital Stats: 33 pounds, Callejeros blend, spayed little lady, approx. 5 years young.
Ideal home: Apartment, condo, or house with yard are all fine for this mid-level energy pup, as long as she gets adequate walks and regular outdoor exercise. Older respectful children if any, and a quieter household would suit her best, with patient guardians who won’t put our sweet girl in situations where she’ll be stressed and overwhelmed. She would really enjoy any well-mannered companion dogs.

***UPDATE: 6/13/17 Stella has an adoption pending and is now in a Foster-To-Adopt (FTA) period with a potential adopter. During this period the adopter and dog have a chance to try each other out and make sure this is a perfect match. If things don't work out, the Dog will return to the rescue and be able to meet with other adopters. Otherwise, the adopter can finalize the adoption at the end of the FTA period or any time during, at which time our dog listing will be removed.
