Meet OMG BECKY

My co-worker Becky, vet tech extraordinaire, learned of this bossy and bold little black beauty's plight when she was helping a clinic client with transport of her very own fat cat. Seems that the poor girl (born in the fall of 2014) had been abandoned by her owners sometime in late 2015, and had spent over a year hanging out in the neighborhood, accepting handouts from the kindhearted feline-loving folk who looked after her but wouldn't let her in. But as the temps plummeted and the frigid winter air arrived, she decided (demanded!) it was high time she got to live indoors again and was doing everything within her power to make our client’s house her home. Unable to care for another indoor kitty, she alerted Becky to the situation, and on December 5th, 2016, the two ladies were able to finally bring her in out of the elements and into the safety and shelter of the clinic. Now for those of you who know (and love) our tech, you may find it odd to realize that she is self-admittedly NOT a cat person—or wasn’t until she met me! Having already found (and kept) a cat of her own in the fall, she wasn’t really in the market for a second kitty to help occupy her one bedroom apartment she currently shared with her husband and dog. However, I KNOW deep down that I have turned her into a cat-loving freak like me, so in order to solidify her newfound love and affection towards all things feline, I named her rescue after her. And for those of you who know me, you know I have an affinity for 80’s music—when we hired Becky I was beside myself with glee, as I could sing ‘Baby Got Back’ to her endlessly—but now it is even better, as I can belt out the line ‘ OH MY GOD BECKY...look at that...CAT’ over and over again!

OMG Becky proved to be a real honey of a cat while she spent time with us at CPVC for a few days, relishing the head rubs and back scratches—she simply couldn’t get enough attention! At the shelter she quickly struck up relationships with each and every volunteer that crossed her path, bestowing upon them a little purr or nuzzle. However, she opted to steer clear from the other cats, and if one got to close, she was certain to express her disdain and dismay; in fact, grumpy-pants Kate Spayed and OMG Becky were roomies for quite a few weeks while they were newbies, and by the end of their time together, neither girl could stand the company of the other, go figure. So ideally, we think it will make our girl happiest if she can reside in a household with no other kitties, or at least one that won’t follow her around and want to (gasp!) be friends:) She would adore a home where she could snuggle up next to her human and not have to complete for cuddles, and given the fact she spent so much time on her own looking for a love to call her own, we can’t blame her one bit.
