10/2/17 Update from Foster Mom:
Jack has really come out of his shyness and has totally bonded with me! He is so much more relaxed around friends that come over and he greets them with a happy tail! We have learned that Jack is a resource guarder, which has been manageable. He is not with food, fortunately, but we no longer allow him to have meaty bones. He sometimes acts like a spoiled brat! Haha! He has loads of personality and the cutest facial expressions. Jack gives the best hugs!! He is so laid back, I really enjoy him around. But my dog does not :( Jack does not want to share his home. If you are a dog-free, kid-free home, please consider fostering Jack!

8/3/17 Update from Foster Mom:
We have been fostering Jack for 4 months. He is a joy to have around. He is very well behaved, quiet in the home and has become very affectionate! He is best friends with our cranky cat and tolerates our 5 year old dog. Jack is not very social with our dog and most days they ignore each other. Jack is nice to our dog though. They give friendly sniffs and tail wags, but Jack is such an awkward boy! Haha! We think he will thrive in an environment where he is the only dog. It is like he doesn't know how to behave socially around other dogs, which is likely a result of not being properly socialized as a puppy. Jack need a home where he can just be Jack, a happy and laid back dog surrounded by the love of his human(s). He is ready for his forever home!!
-------------
Jack is a handsome black lab mix, 3 years old, weighing 54 lbs. He is a very loyal, well trained dog. He's sweet, lovable and sometimes shy, but he quickly becomes the best friend of the humans in his life. He's totally house trained and crate trained, but a crate is really not needed. He loves his plush dog bed!

Jack needs his new owner to provide him a quiet home with a lot of structure and love. He needs a home where he can be the only dog to receive the one on one attention that he needs and deserves. He is not social with other dogs and will need someone comfortable with his behavior who is willing to work with him to shift it. He also needs a home without young children. After living with his family for two years, Jack was left unattended with a three year old child and snapped at the child. Food was likely a motivator, but it's obviously not an event to risk repeating. Because his family felt unsafe with that encounter, they had to make the tough decision to surrender him.

We are confident that in the right environment, Jack will thrive as a happy, well-behaved dog. Fortunately, he's still a young boy who is eager to learn and love. Unfortunately, many people are scared off by his past. We need his story to be shared so we can find a home that will fit his needs and give him a bright future.
