Meet Pookie - $20 adoption fee

UPDATE: Do you know what it is like to struggle with your weight? If so, you know how important it is to have the support of family and friends to meet your goals. Pookie, due to the changes in her life, gained 6 pounds and now weighs 17 pounds. She has gotten so large we had to help her groom herself by shaving her back. She needs to lose that weight so she can live a long, healthy life. We are helping her out by providing her a low calorie, high fiber food every day, but having a family of her own would really help motivate her. She could have a chance to explore a house, walk around, and climb, and play with toys. Are you willing to help her on her weight loss journey?

Is Pookie too old to be adopted? This sweet 16 year old girl has been searching for a home since November and hasn't had any interest. I am afraid that her advanced age is scaring people away. Yet, we firmly believe that every cat deserves to have a loving family in his or her golden years. Before you check out another cat, learn some great things about her:

1) Pookie lived with her mom her whole life, and now she has to adjust to life without her mom. Tyson's Place Animal Rescue's mission is to assist terminally ill people with finding homes for their pets. Pookie's owner is battling stage 4 cancer and became too ill to care for her. She was worried that her beloved cat would have to be put to sleep if she couldn't find a home for her. Thankfully, we were able to step and get her into a foster home. The first few days were rough, but Pookie is blossoming. Plus, we are able to provide her previous owner updates on how well she is doing in her foster home.

2) Pookie has a great personality. She is an older girl with a matching dignified personality. Her previous owner said she enjoys peace and quiet. In fact, in her foster home, she settles in next to her foster mom on the couch and sleeps at the end of her bed every night. She is a quiet girl that knows how to give you space and, at the same time, acts as a reliable companion. Her previous owner describes her as friendly with family, quiet and affectionate. She enjoys being pet and sitting in your lap. She is a queen though, and prefers to be the only cat in the home.

3). Pookie is healthy. So healthy, in fact, that our vet thinks, at least based on her physical status, she is closer to 10 years old. She has had a thorough exam - including complete blood work and urinalysis - and she is in perfect health. She has good teeth and a healthy coat. She is current on vaccinations. As long as she receives annual vet visits with her new owner, she should be able to live several more years.

I would love to let her previous owner know that we found Pookie a forever home where she can spend her golden years. Do you have it in your heart to give a gentle sweetheart a home?

Please email tysonsplacerescue@gmail.com for more information or fill out an application at www.tysonsplacerescue.org. For the month of August, her adoption fee is just $20.
