Update 12/15/17: FRISCO FOUND HIS FOREVER HOME!!!

Update 12/3/17: Frisco has an application in for him!! Stay tuned to find out if he finds his forever home.

It’s been proven that spending even five minutes with Frisco will melt away your stress. There’s no way you cannot meet this large marshmallow of a guy without smiling at his playful, charming ways. Frisco will quickly grab a tennis ball and jump on top of the tire in our play yard to show off his stuff. When he spots a person sitting down in a chair, he will race over, sit down at their feet, and look up at them in the most endearing manner – and the ball is still in his mouth! He’s an amazing cuddle buddy and loves belly rubs and playtime. In fewer words, Frisco is an AMAZING dog. We’re baffled that he’s still at the shelter because he will make a great addition to a home and fill somebody’s life with so much love and fun times.

We’re going to be frank with you from the get-go: Frisco is completely deaf. However, you would not know that he is deaf unless we told you, because his being deaf does not affect him at all. Because he is deaf, he will need a fenced-in yard, and he should be the only pet in his new household. He also shouldn’t be startled awake, so we recommend older children who understand this. That’s about it!

It frustrates Frisco to meet new people through his kennel because he does not understand why a barrier is there. We want potential adopters to understand this and look past his kennel behavior. Out of his kennel, he is an absolute sweetheart. His love truly knows no bounds! As can be expected from being kenneled, he’s a little excited at first, but he'll quickly settle down if you give him a ball… And then it’s time for lots of cuddles!

Frisco has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-wormed and tested for heartworms prior to adoption. His adoption fee is $150. If Frisco, Diego, Daisy, or Bonnie is adopted before Christmas, a kind volunteer will pay their adoption fee.

If you’re looking for one of the sweetest, cuddliest, most playful dogs on the earth, Frisco may be the right dog for you! If you have any questions about Frisco or are interested in pursuing adoption, visit Loving Heart Animal Shelter in Lafayette.

Other things you might be wondering about Frisco…

“Where did Frisco come from and when?” We rescued Frisco from a high-kill animal control facility in November 2016. He was adopted and returned to Animal Control because of “other pet,” but when tested with other dogs he was very playful.

“How does Frisco do with other dogs or cats?” Although Frisco may enjoy playing with another dog, he should be the only dog in his new home. Being deaf, he can’t properly read other dogs’ body language. We do not know how Frisco would do with cats.

“How active is Frisco?” He is a pretty active boy, but a good playtime session about twice a day and possibly a walk should meet his exercise needs. Earlier this year, we trained him to use some agility equipment, and he really enjoyed that!

“Does Frisco’s deafness affect his trainability?” No, it doesn’t! During the time he has been with us, Frisco has mastered sit, down, and bow. He loves treats. With consistent training, it should be pretty easy to teach him new cues and tricks.

“What else should I know about owning a deaf dog?” Since Frisco is not able to hear anything, you need to be able to read his body language so you can understand what he’s trying to tell you. Learning how to read dog body language is pretty easy, and we can provide you with a basic information sheet about dog body language upon adoption. Also, whenever you take Frisco outside, he should always wear a dog tag with current identification information if something should happen; we’ve microchipped him as well.

You don’t need to be an experienced dog person to own a deaf dog, because love, patience, and commitment to the dog are what is most important. Please give Frisco a chance at a loving, forever home - he will undoubtedly fill your life with buckets full of love and joy!
