Meet Fluffy

Fluffy came to us when a local animal control rep asked us to help with a cat who she secured earlier that day. Upon arrival at a remote construction site, workers heard loud crying come from a dumpster. Upon investigation, and with help of animal control, an adult cat was found under the dumpster. It appeared he had broken free and escaped from his carrier that was thrown in the dumpster. In the dumpster, along with him and his carrier, were his toys, blankets, food dishes, litter pan and all of his belongings. He was thrown away. He was discarded like he was worthless trash with all of his supplies. He was left trapped to die slowly, alone and frightened. He was stressed, scared, soaking wet from the pouring rain, hungry, and severely matted. Who knows how long he was in the dumpster. He put up no fight to be trapped and removed from the site. He was fed and shaved to remove the severe matting. We immediately agreed to take him in after his quarantine and cruelty investigation.

Fluffy was scared and traumatized at first. He stayed hidden under his bedding for many weeks, but when prompted, he loved to be pet, purred and loved to sit on our laps. Then he started to peek out to greet us when he heard us and started learning to trust again. He would shake from fear when we first touched or held him (an indication that he was probably mistreated even before he landed in a dumpster). Fluffy instantly became one of the staff favorites.

Fast forward to today and Fluffy is a new cat. He is nothing like the cat that came to us terrified and confused. He is confident and secure and thinks he is king of the castle. Fluffy is one of our resident cats and struts around the building like he owns the place, peeking into rooms to see what his other feline friends are doing. He is no longer afraid to be pet and often seeks out attention. He will happily climb into your lap for loving and is quite content to stay there. Every once in a while, you can still see signs of his traumatic past. If you come around a corner very quickly and startle him, he may let out a hiss or run off.

Fluffy can be a bit dominant with other cats, but he does share his space with our other resident cat, Linus. We do think Fluffy needs to go to a home without other cats, because sometimes he can be too aggressive with his resident room mate. Fluffy can also be known to swat when he has decided he has had enough attention, so he may not be a good choice for very young children.

Fluffy has been through so much, but he is ready to find his forever home now, one where he will be shown love and kindness and never again be discarded.
