Arrival Story: Waggin' Tails found Gizmo at Detroit Animal Care and Control. After meeting and playing with Gizmo, we knew we had to help this happy dog find a great new family.

Approximate Age/Weight: 5 years / 55 lbs.

Personality: Gizmo is a silly, playful little bundle of brindle happiness. We met him at the shelter where he won over one of our volunteers during a play session. Gizmo takes treats gently but plays rough and can sometimes be a bit mouthy in play sessions. He loves toys, eating meals out of Kongs and chewing on bully sticks. He does act puppyish and still sometimes mouths hands when playing (no biting, just mouthing) so we're working on that. He graduated from Training Buddies, Mind Your Manners class.

Gizmo has had a DNA test and we discovered that he is 78.5% American Staffordshire Terrier with 12.% of mixed breed identifiable as only parts of the sporting, hound, and mountain dog groups. Gizmo is a svelt 55lbs full grown.

Gizmo has good house manners and hasn't played with anything other than his toys in the house. He took to crate training easily. He loves peanut butter, bananas, berries and cantaloupe.

Gizmo is a fun dog who really enjoys time with people, is making good eye contact and checking in with his handler on walks. He is a leaner, and will curl into you for some pets or sit on your lap for snuggle time. He would love to sleep with you and provide warmth on cold nights. Giz is great at morning snuggles! Our boy is adventurous and likes to explore and follows his nose wherever it goes. He wears a harness on walks. Gizmo is good on car rides but needs to be secured or he’ll be trying to drive. Gizmo is treat-motivated and wants to learn and is super smart. He is more busy-body than couch potato and likes to know what is going on the house so you will find him tagging along as you move about your home doing chores. He is not much of a barker and likes to sit at the front window and watch the neighborhood goings on. Gizmo doesn't bark at people or dogs passing by.

Forever Home: Gizmo could fit into many different home situations. He would likely knock over a little one with his bouncy, happy-go-lucky nature so kids older than 10 is best. He has a good energy level and requires playtime and mental stimulation.
