Meet Lucky

This happy girl always has a smile on her face. She loves people and other dogs (but doesn't want to live with cats). She's friendly, playful, and energetic; she's around one year old but still has a lot of puppy energy and is working on her basic obedience. She'd be a good fit for kids around 12 and up (she loves kids, but can be jumpy and might knock little ones down). Lucky would be happiest in a home where someone is around more often than not. To learn more, come meet Lucky or e-mail shelter@spca914.org.

Lucky is a Trainer Adoption. Please e-mail trainer@spca914.org or shelter@spca914.org to set up a time to meet Lucky!

What is a Trainer Adoption?
The overwhelming nature of a shelter can make it hard for some dogs to connect with potential adopters in one visit. Dogs that need a few visits to get to know and connect with people are listed on Petfinder as Trainer Adoptions. Adopters who are interested in a Trainer Adoption dog will make an appointment with our trainer to meet the dog, learn all about him or her, and hear about the specific training these dogs have had at the shelter, how to continue that training for a smooth transition to home, and what that dog needs to be successful.

Trainer Adoption dogs are listed as “adoption pending” once an interested adopter has met with our trainer and expressed continued interest in the dog. This ensures that no other adopters can supersede the getting-to-know you process. Applications may still be submitted by others for dogs marked “adoption pending,” in case the pending adoption does not work out.

When to Come:
Unless noted differently above, our hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 1pm-4pm. Our adoptions are first come, first served based on the status of your application.

What to Bring:
Please bring a copy of your current pet(s)’ vaccination records (if you currently have a dog or cat or did within the last 2 years) and a copy of your lease (if you rent or own a condo/co-op/townhouse) in case we are unable to get hold of your veterinarian or landlord/management company on the day you come in.

Adoption Process:
We do same day adoptions pending application approval/satisfactory reference checks, except in the case of dogs listed as Trainer Adoptions (on occasion, some Trainer Adoption dogs are able to go home same day). With all adoptions, every person living in the home where the dog will reside must come meet the dog, and any dogs already in the home must come for a meet and greet as well.

We do NOT hold animals, nor do we accept deposits in advance. If you have discussed coming in to meet an animal or have an approved application, this does not guarantee that you will get a particular puppy or dog. If you do not bring your dog(s) or all residents of your home to meet the dog, we cannot hold that dog for you.

Adoption Fees & What’s Included:
All dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated (age appropriate), and come with a free veterinary visit from a participating vet within seven days of adoption.

Adults dogs over 1 year of age: $200-$350
All Puppies: $350
Seniors and Lonely Hearts Club members: $75

Feel free to e-mail shelter@spca914.org or call (914) 941-2896 ext. 11 with any questions or for more details on the dog(s) in which you are interested.
