Arrival story: Pearl was surrendered to Detroit Animal Control & Care in June by a lady who claimed she wandered into her yard and wouldn't leave. Growing up on the streets and then spending months in a shelter is no place for a young pup to be. So we decided it was time for this little lady to have the life she deserves. Her appreciation and celebratory glow shines daily.

Approximate age / Weight: Under 1 year / 40 lbs.

Personality: Pearl had a rough start and was not exposed to many people or places in a positive way so she's a bit shy and apprehensive to new things. She possesses a sweet and loving disposition and after she gets to know you will shower you will kisses and tail wags that will send her whole body swinging.

Pearl lacks confidence and has a ton of puppy energy so she will require a kind canine friend in her new home. A buddy who knows the world is a good and safe place will help her to learn by example and help her trust in situations she feels unsure of. She is a young dog so she plays hard but nicely. She also currently lives with cats and has been nothing but polite.

Pearl loves doggy daycare! She is sweet and appropriate at all times and every dog loves her. The staff really enjoy a dog so well-behaved with other dogs.

Pearl has energy! She loves to blast around the yard and is a toy-aholic. She is still learning to live in a home and what she can and cannot do. She is very receptive to gentle verbal commands when doing something she shouldn't, and is almost housebroken. Crating is no problem. She readily goes into her crate for bed and when her human is not home. And looks forward to the reward treat for being so cooperative.

*Note: The photo of her and her foster brother and best friend, Buddy - also up for adoption through Waggin' Tails.

Forever home: Pearl will need a family that will be willing to work with her confidence issues and who is willing to slowly and carefully help her navigate her new experiences with positive reinforcement. She also needs a loving canine sibling as this is where she finds herself happiest.
