Meet Mila

Sweet Mila has a story to tell ! She was dumped and left to die in the abandoned Southern Illinois Coal mines, who knows how long she was out there, there is nothing around for miles and a hunter found her. She was missing almost all of her hair, she was so thin is was sickening and it look liked she was VERY pregnant. Her pictures are too grotesque to post. We made an emergency vet stop to get fluids in her and see if she could be saved. Mila was not pregnant, she was full of fluid, her body was shutting down and she was full of heart worms. The vet recommended letting her have some peace and we agreed but there was just something about her. We decided to get some medicine to help get rid of the fluid and make her as comfortable as possible until it was time, she only had days to live and we wanted her to know what it is like to be loved. Imagine the vets surprise, as well as ours, as Mila continued to do well after one week. Eating, drinking and seemed so happy ! Then 2 weeks …..continued to improve ! The fluid was leaving her body and things were heading in the right direction. Mila lost 40 lbs of fluid over the next few weeks and gained weight steadily, she loves to eat !! She’s a smaller St. Benard or maybe a mix and now weighs 91 lbs. and has some gaining to do. We have had Mila since June and she is finally ready to start looking for her forever home. She surprisingly loves every human she meets, and adores kids. She is fine with other calm dogs and is bossy with ones that get excited easily. She has a wonderful disposition, loves to go for walks and enjoys car rides. We can’t help to be very attached to her. Mila is still waiting on heart worm treatment, the medicine is on backorder. We just know she will do well with it, everyone agrees that Mila is a true Miracle !!! Mila is just 4 to 5 years old.

Adoption Donation $295 This will not even make a dent in her vet bills so please feel free to make a donation to Senior Dog Project even if you can’t adopt her.
