Meet Jax

Jax is unassuming and gentle and he never complains. Jax is happy to be. Jax is most likely a German Shepherd/Chow mix and is around 4-5 years old. Jax had been abandoned and apparently living out in the woods on his own until one day he wandered up to the porch of a kind man who brought him in, took him to the vet and then boarded him until STAF could take him.

Jax has a wonderful, calm demeanor and he is a gentle, sweet dog that is great around kids and other dogs. He is easy going and adores attention. Jax has a smile that will melt your heart :)

Dogs with Jax’s personality, demeanor and inner goodness are dogs we wish we could clone. There is only thing about Jax that we wish we could change and that is that Jax has early onset arthritis. Originally we thought that Jax had a much more severe form of arthritis, but Jax has degenerative arthritis which is what most dogs get at one point or another. However, most dogs don’t present with arthritis until at least 7 years old. But when Jax arrived at STAF he had swollen legs, he was stiff and had a labored gait. But in just the few weeks of being at STAF Jax is showing improvement by being on a healthier diet, taking medicine for inflammation, going on shorter walks, as well he has started swimming at one of STAF’s daycare partners, we are so happy that Jax likes to swim :o). Jax is doing great and all the volunteers and Jax vets are thrilled with his noticeable improvement. Jax is definitely not the dog to let arthritis get him down, he is happy as a lark he sees his glass as half full:o).

Although we have arranged for Jax to have a cushion floor at STAF, we know that Jax will do best in a home with a big cushy dog bed. Jax will most likely always need a special diet, meds for his inflammation as well as exercise (like swimming) suited for a dog with arthritis. Jax deserves all this and more.
Jax is a very, very special boy and we are hoping to find Jax a home that is just as special as Jax. Jax doesn't think he's special needs and he LOVES to chase and eat bugs:o) Let us know if you might be Jax’s special home.

Jax's estimated birth date is 2012
