Adoption Policy:

The adoption fee for any dog is $75.00.
Adopters may receive a $50.00 spay/neuter certificate if the dog is not already altered.

Adopters will also receive a current Wood County Dog License.

The majority of the dogs available for adoption and transfer were found as strays, as a result the shelter does not have vaccination history. Vaccinations or vaccination history is not included unless otherwise indicated by shelter personnel.

State law requires the Wood County Dog Shelter to house dogs for specific time periods prior to the dog's adoption to the public or transfer to a rescue organization. All dogs at the shelter are available for adoption or transfer on or after their available date. Please call the shelter to determine a dog's available date.

Adoption Requirements:

Adopters shall be eighteen years of age or older.

Adopters shall be permitted to own a dog at the address listed on the adoption application. Adopters residing with parents, renting their home or renting their land may be required to provide written, signed and dated permission by the homeowner, landowner or landlord authorizing the dog to reside at the residence.

Adopters shall not breed the dog and shall spay or neuter the dog, at their own expense, within thirty days of the adoption date or upon the dog reaching six months of age unless the spay or neuter is contraindicated in writing by a licensed veterinarian. The Wood County Dog Shelter may provide a spay or neuter certificate to the adopter in an amount determined by the Board of County Commissioners to reduce the adopter's spay or neuter expense.

Adopters shall provide adequate food, water, shelter and veterinary care to the dog in accordance with RC 959.

Adopters shall confine and license the dog in accordance with RC 955.
