Meet George

George is our resident loveable lunk. He is a Great Pyrenees, about 4 years old and came to us from a shelter in Kentucky. He is very tall, and weighs about 90lbs. He is very very long, and his tail sticks straight back and wags like a rutter on a boat.
Even though the following description of the breed may sound intimidating, please know that George is a lovable, sweet, serious, but loyal friend. His personality is fantastic! He is a very mellow dog, and really loves children, people, cats ( his cat roommates adore him), and dogs. He wags his tail often, so he has a habit of knocking things over (again, the 'lunk' personality), including the potential to knock small children over. When he drinks, you'd swear he was a camel - he can drink about a quart in one shot, and it can be messy with his jowls. He doesn't bark too much in our house, but the breed is known to be barkers.
Apartment living may not be right for this dog. He would be wonderful in a home with a family. This breed is protective of their family, and are wary of strangers until they know the family is comfortable with the visitors.
Please read up on the breed. The "working dog" breeds typically have certain habits and needs that others don't. George can be stubborn, and has a slight herding instinct, but he has NEVER been mean or pushy. Pyrenees need a 'job' so they don't get bored and destructive, dig, or bark. The breed has an independent nature and mind of their own and are not pushovers to raise and train. They can be manipulative, and some are willful, obstinate, and dominant (they want to be the boss) and will make you prove that you can make them do things. You must show them, through absolute consistency, that you mean what you say.
Most indications say he will need a super tall fence, but I don't see him jumping fences. However, he can stand up on his hind legs and reach the top of a 6 foot fence, so a tall fence would be needed. Invisible fencing is not appropriate for George; the breed has a tendency to roam. https://www.petfinder.com/dog-breeds/Great-Pyrenees . If you think you have the right home for him, please put in an application.
Once you've had a Pyrenees, I bet you will always want to have one in your life. They are wonderful dogs.
For more information and adoption applications (which must be completed to arrange a meeting) visit Rescued Treasures website at http://rescued-treasures.com/dog-application/. If you do not hear from our volunteers within 2 days, please email us at rescuedtreasuresadoptions@gmail.com.

Before applying for this dog, please think the decision over thoroughly and make sure the whole family is in agreement. Owning a dog is a huge responsibility that is not something that should be rushed into. Each dog from Rescued Treasures has been saved from an uncertain future. If you are thinking about adopting, please remember it is a LIFE-LONG commitment. Dogs can live to be at least 14 years old...are you ready to take care of him/her that long?
