Arrival story: Jerry was a stray found on the streets of Detroit and taken to Michigan Humane Society where he developed an upper respiratory infection and suffered from bouts of diarrhea and vomiting. It was also discovered he had heartworms, so MHS reached out to local rescues and he found a place with Waggin Tails where he could heal and receive treatment. Jerry has been treated for the heartworms, his other ailments and has made a full recovery. He is a very happy, healthy boy!

Personality: Jerry is a gorgeous black German Shepherd who is affectionate, confident and very curious. He is very curious and seems to have no fears. Jerry is a bit of a ham, rolling over a lot for belly rubs and sleeping on his back with his legs in the air. He knows how to make his foster mom smile and laugh!

Jerry loves his walks and can entertain himself with his toys, his favorite being squeaky toys, like his bouncy ball.

Jerry isn't all that interested in playing with other dogs. He does imitate the other dogs in his foster home, looking to them for guidance. He would benefit from having another dog to keep him company when no one is home and to guide him on doggy stuff, but Jerry's main focus in engaging with his foster parents and his toys.

He would excel in obedience training given his food and toy drives. Jerry is a diamond in the rough. He can be tenacious at times, pushing his way into and out of spaces whether or not you are in the space! He can be boisterous at certain times, such as feeding time and when people are coming and going. He's not exactly graceful when drinking out of his water bowl either, but his charm and well-rounded personality more than makes up for these traits.

Forever home: Jerry would excel in an adult household or a family with older children, who are active and home much of the time. He gets anxious when he is alone and would benefit from having a good-natured doggy pal in the home to mentor him and keep him company when no one is home.

We are seeking applicants with a history of dog ownership, preferable having experience with this breed. Jerry needs confident and consistent companions who will spend lots of time with him and set boundaries and goals for him. He would benefit from daily walks and other types of interactive play with his people. Jerry should have a physically fenced yard.
