Meet Tia - C.L.A.S.S. Graduate w/B.A., M.A. & PhD

If you're looking for a loving, smiling face to greet you when you wake up, when you go to sleep, and every hour in between, you might be looking for Tia. Her ideal home is a nice suburban area with a big yard where she won't be around a lot of other dogs (she's not a fan). This 7 year old hound/shepherd mix is a happy, honey of a girl who loves tennis balls and time with her people more than anything. Because she's a big girl, bigger kids (12+) would be a good fit for her. Tia isn't just a pretty face -- she's a smart cookie, too! She is a C.L.A.S.S. graduate!! C.L.A.S.S. stands for Canine Life and Social Skills, and by earning her B.A., M.A., and PhD (with honors!), Tia has shown that she's mastered skills like meet and greets, loose leash walking, stay, settle, leave it, and more. In other words, she's one smart, well trained pup! E-mail shelter@spca914.org for more info on Tia, or come meet her!

Unless noted differently above, you can come in anytime during our hours to meet and/or adopt! Our hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday's 1pm-4pm. No appointment necessary. Our adoptions are first come, first served based on the status of your application. Please note, we do NOT hold animals, nor do we accept deposits in advance. If you have discussed coming in to meet an animal or have an approved application, this does not guarantee that you will get a particular puppy or dog. If you do not bring your dog(s) to meet we cannot hold the dog you are interested in adopting.

Our address is 590 North State Road in Briarcliff Manor, NY 10510. To obtain an Adoption Application, please copy and paste the following link into your computer browser: http://www.spca914.org/adopt/animals-for-adoption or email Shelter@spca914.org. You may also visit our website at www.spca914.org or just fill out an Application when you get here.

Please note it may be a good idea to bring a copy of your current pet(s) vaccination records (if you currently have a dog or cat or did within the last 2 years) and a copy of your lease (if you rent or own a condo/co-op/townhouse) in case we are unable to get hold of your Veterinarian or Landlord/Management Company that day.

We do same day adoptions pending approval, unless the dog is marked as a Trainer Adoption. Depending on the dog, some Trainer Adoptions can go home the same day. Families interested in dogs listed as Trainer Adoptions will work with our trainer(s) to ensure that the adoption is the best placement for that dog and all family members will be required to meet the dog. During this time, the dog will still appear on Petfinder and will be marked as “Adoption Pending”. If another family is interested in that dog, they can fill out an adoption application and submit it to the trainer. In the event the first adoption does not work out, the next application received will be considered. Our trainer(s) will only work with one family at a time for special adoptions. If a dog is a trainer adoption, this will require more than one visit to the shelter to meet with our trainer and the dog.

If a dog is considered a Staff Adoption, in most cases, the dog can be adopted the same day, but it varies case by case. Please email us at Shelter@spca914.org or call us at (914) 941-2896 ext. 11 or 15 to find out if the dog(s) you are interested in has any restrictions or special requirements prior to arrival.

All Dogs and puppies are spayed/neutered, microchipped, vaccinated (age appropriate) and come with a free 7 day Veterinarian check from a participating Vet! High Kill Shelter Rescues, both Puppies and Adults are $350, All Puppies are $350 and Local Stray Adults over 1 year of age are $200-$350. Seniors and Lonely Hearts Club members are $75. Please visit: http://www.spca914.org/adoptanimal.htm to read our Adoption Policy and Procedures in full.
