Meet Raisen

Raisin is a medium small (35 lb) lab/pit mix, black w white markings , super sweet and smart, about a year and a half old. She shouldn't' live with cats (she definitely has a high prey drive), and based on what we know of her now, she probably wouldn't be great with kids under 6. She' s been fine with older kids- she just tends to be scared of things she doesn't know, and little kids are unpredictable.

She loves to dig more than anything, but has spent lots of time hanging out next to farm fields and hasn't dug in any of the beds. She's spent hours off-leash with me while I was working in the garden and she stayed right with me. We have been working on hiking off-leash- she needs more training to be able to do that, New places with exciting sights, smells, people, and dogs are trickier for her, and I wouldn't trust her off leash without more training on recall.

I bet she would love living with another dog. She is a little shy of strangers (barks) but after they ignore her for a few minutes and she sniffs them, she's been totally fine. She still needs a lot of training, especially on leash. She tends to pull, and can be reactive to other dogs on-leash. She has been able to play really well with all other dogs we've introduced her to off-leash. We've never taken her to a dog park- it's always been one other dog at a time, usually in an enclosed area or a big field far away from the road.

If she gets enough exercise (two walks a day, or a long hike, or some play time with other dogs), she will be super calm in the house. She sleeps a lot, and she loves to snuggle, loves her people, and is generally the sweetest dog. She has been very responsive to training so far, although is still working on lots of things. She has not been possessive of her food, and likes treats but isn't always motivated by them. She seems to love praise the most.

She sleeps all night in her crate, and recently we've been letting her sleep out of the crate on one of our chairs. However when we first got her, she nibbled on our houseplants and anything plastic to leather we left out, so at first she might need to be crated when alone.

When she goes into her crate when we leave the house, she whines for about a minute, then she is fine. That being said, she hasn't been left for more than 3 or 4 hours very often- she definitely needs a family who is around a lot and is willing to work with her on training.

She deserves to be in a place where her humans adore her, have the time and space to let her play and run, have experience with dogs, and can help her be her best self. She is very eager to please. .She is in a foster home in Bristol, Vermont. We can arrange a meet and greet with an approved application. She's a sweetheart who just wants to love and be loved!
