Meet Hero

Hey there! My name is Hero and I’m 16.5 lbs, 2-years old and devilishly good lookin’. I have a rocking cool white coat with brown freckles and a sporty brown patch at the base of my tail. Let’s face it, I’m unique! I’m also chock full of fun (watch my video!) and my foster mom loves to tell people how smart I am! I might look a little sad in some of my pictures, but trust me, I am anything but!!

I love to make a game out of everything. I play play play all the time and make everyone around me laugh and giggle. If I find the laundry basket or a bowl I will push it around and and my toys love to fly, I’ll toss them up into the air, I never chew them, I just like the idea of flying. Maybe I’ll be an astronaut-dog when I grow up!

Another of my favourite things is my broom. Foster mom makes it a game for me. She’ll leave it for me to find and when I do I have a blast! I push it around the room (I think she thinks I’ll sweep the kitchen floor for her, which I just might do cause I love her!) Sometimes when I push it around it gets stuck and won’t move any more… does that stop me? heck no. I just run around it and tackle the problem from a different point of view. If a toy gets stuck somewhere you can count on me to figure out how to get it out. I’ll use my head and even my whole body to push things out of the way to free my toy! I’m a problem solver, that’s what I am.

My wicker basket is so lovely and I happily curl up at night to sleep in it beside foster mom and dad’s bed. When I wake up in the morning, I do a little will dance along the side of the bed until I get to Foster mom’s pillow – then she picks me up for my morning cuddle and snooze. Life is so wonderful!

I can be shy at first, but nothing warms me up like a head and ear rub. Even better is a good back scratch; it really gets my tail wagging! I am still perfecting my house training, but I am generally very obedient. I know my name and listen when I’m called or when you tell me no.

I had a few issues with trust when I came to foster care, but with all the love and patience that my family has shown me I am blossoming into a Super Dog of love and trust and fun. I never knew such love and kindness. Now I love to be picked up and foster dad and I snuggle at night watching TV.

Sometimes I am still a little possessive of my toys, but that’s mostly with the new fosters who come to the house and don’t know the drill and steal my stuff. I am so excited to think that I will have a forever home very soon. I have learned that it’s okay for my foster parents to touch my food and my bowl too. I don’t worry about that any more.

The rescue is waiting for the perfect home for me and I am wagging my tail in anticipation. P.S. did I mention that foster mom not only says I’m smart, she says I’m “off the charts” smart. I like that! woof!

Hero is full of personality and excited to share his love with his new family. He is looking for a home with no cats but would love to live with other dogs – he also would be perfect as an only dog given his resourcefulness on the fun front. Hero could potentially fit with a family with older children who understand how to respect his boundaries, especially with food. An ideal home would have a backyard and someone available for frequent daily walks that he enjoys so much! Can he be your Hero?!
