Meet Annie

Annie, spayed Bouvier, owner deceased

UPDATE 11/11/19 : Annie passed away during the night of 10/24/19
My sorrow is indescribable

ORIGINAL INFORMATION :

Annie and her packmate Murphy came to rescue because their owner died (was dead for 2 days when discovered). Taken by police to shelter for protective custody, then signed over by next of kin, transported by shelter volunteer to one of my rescue buddies for her first week (I was dealing with some potential health threats of my own), then to my own home.
Because these two have lived together all of Annie's life (since she was a puppy), I want them to be adopted together.

Annie is a tremendously sweet dog, will warm up to strangers quickly. She was bred by one of our most respected breeders. She is horrifically obese, but I have started her cure, and she will be an extremely good looking lady when she's down to a healthy weight. I began her walking exercise with slow walks, adding distance gradually. She's able to handle 2 miles at slow pace now.

I will add photos and more info later on. Both dogs were neglected outdoor dogs during the last few years, so now they are getting used to house-dog life.

Annie and Murphy should be adopted together. They have been together for all of her life (since leaving her breeder) as she's the younger of the two. She's 6 and he's 8. Both in good general health, other than obesity.

update 2/05/2016
Annie's obesity has been reduced by over 20 lbs. She still has a way to go, but we are making progress. She is easy to live with, easy to walk. she's gotten into the habit of peeing soon as I take her outdoors, and she's now willing to use the dog door on her own (perhaps because it's no longer so hard to squeeze her body through the opening.)

update 2/24/2016
Annie is down to 112 lbs (from original 144 lbs), which is still seriously overweight. probably goal is around 90 lbs ? 85 lbs?
she did very well with visitors, man and woman , two weekends ago. Annie accepts strangers easily.

update 3/27/2016
I took Annie in for an opthamology exam. she's diagnosed with "dry eye" which requires Optimune ointment in each eye twice a day (doesn't need to be 12 hour intervals, a couple hours leeway is OK). she will need this forever. easy to do. vision in left eye is probably poor, right eye normal. she has no trouble getting around. still needs to lose more weight. enjoys being petted. a sweet gentle low keyed girl.

update 5'/06/2016
Annie is doing very well on Optimune. and when she sees me with the tube of it in my hand , she comes right over to receive it, which to me says that she's found it feels good to her.

update 5/06/2016
I've been getting requests from adopters very distant from my home (near Sacramento, CA. I do NOT do long distance adoptions. so don[t ask
I've been getting requests to adopt only Annie, without Murphy. Sjhe is really bonded to Murphy and should not be separated from him. Don't ask : I won't do it.
finally, please e-mail me directly to pamgreen at cal dot net. don't use the built in petfinder form because the resulting e-mail crashes my e-mail program.

thank you for observing these rules.

update 7/06/2016
Annie is now down to a healthy weight. congratulations to her and to me !
I have given her a summer hair cut, a bit raggedy at the moment. I haven't had chance to take new photo showing how pretty she looks at a healthy weight.
Annie is a sweet and calm dog, very sedate in behavior.

update 10/7/2016
once more I remind everyone , do NOT ask to adopt this dog if you live at a great distance from the area of Sacramento, CA and do NOT ask to adopt Murphy without Annie or Annie without Murphy.

update 4/07/2017
I'm now pretty sure Murphy shouldn't be in a home with a cat. he finds the sight of one too exciting. since he and Annie are a pair, that means she also won't be going to a home with cats, although by herself she'd probably be OK.

UPDATE Oct, 2019
Murphy passed away last month.
Annie remains with me. She's comfortable here and she has extra health needs. A few months ago, she was diagnosed with Glacoma and that blind and painful eye was surgically removed. She's getting two eye medications every day to preserve the health of the surviving eye. This is expected to work for over two years before intraocular pressure becomes uncontrolled.
She is enjoying her life with me.
