Meet Danny

Danny is a very sweet Shih Tzu mix who was found wandering the streets. He was underweight, his eyes were matted, and he had lost much of the hair on his back. He was immediately brought into foster care and spent a few days at the vet. His problems were due to allergies and neglect. He has been in foster care for about 12 weeks and has made a great improvement. His foster family has men, women, children, dogs, and cats. He is doing great with people but when the cats get close, he is a little unhappy He does not chase them as long as they respect his personal space. He has also spent time in an adult only household and just loves being with you. Danny plays well with a 10 month old Dachshund pup who gets along with everyone. He ignores the office cats who are dog savvy. There are no major problems. Danny weighed 11 lbs. on 8/19/15 but has gained a little weight since then. He will remain a small dog. Danny has visited the Humane Society office and was great with all people. He just wants to sit on your lap once he gets to know you a little. He is heartworm negative and has been on heartworm preventative. He is also on flea preventative and is current on all of his shots. He has been neutered and microchipped. Danny will need allergy prevention or some allergy type food to keep his fur healthy and prevent scratching. Danny must have flea preventative on a regular basis as the vet thinks his hair loss was flea related. He exhibits an allergy related cough when he plays hard. He enjoys his crate for rest and time out but needs someone around him most of the day. He does not like being left alone. Danny is laid back and quiet but don't show him a newspaper. He is scared of them and we think someone probably swatted him with them .Although mostly house broken he needs someone to take him out on a regular basis to make sure he has regular potty breaks. He does fine with regular attention. He is about 6 years old and is ready for a forever home If you have the time and love for Danny, please fill out an adoption application. His adoption donation will be $125 to help cover his vet care.
Thank you for your interest in Danny!

Dog Adoption Guidelines:

You must fill out an application to be considered for adoption. You can fill out an application at www.forthepets.org/adoption.htm or email to humanesociety@murray-ky.net for an application.
It is not a "first come" process; we try to "match" the dog with the family for a FOREVER home. We process all applications at once and take the dog off the site, place on adoption pending status until a decision is made. If a suitable home is not found, the dog returns to active status.
The dog adoption process can take about two weeks; we are a small group of volunteers who have full time jobs.
All of our dogs are indoor dogs with outdoor privileges, unless otherwise specified.
We do not fly or ship our dogs due to heat/cold concerns and safety issues. If you are willing to fly out AND fly the dog back in the cabin (size restrictions) with you, that would be considered.
If you apply to adopt a dog and are chosen, you must come to Murray, KY to pick up the dog and fill out the paperwork in person.
We do adopt out-of-state, but we do not transport.
We can't provide individual "meet and greet" sessions for each applicant. If chosen to adopt, you will have time to visit with the dog before signing any paperwork and will not be committed to adopt if you choose not to at that time.
