Meet Lucky Lizzie - Special Girl (RIP)

Update: (8-28-17) - It is with a heavy heart that we update this post by saying that Lizzie lost her battle to kidney disease today. She did, however, have two of the most wonderful years that a dog could have in her foster home. Her foster mom and dad loved her like one of their own. She will be sadly missed by all of us at OLTL. Run free, sweet Lizzie girl. We hope to see you again one day. Update (4-05-16) - Lizzie's last blood work results were not as good as we were hoping. She is only functioning on about 25% of her kidneys. The large stone that we had removed has apparently done some irreversible damage. Lizzie is on a few medications and special food, however, she is as happy as a lark. She does receive fluids once a week. Lizzie has a wonderful spirit and we are hoping that she will be happy and very much loved for whatever time that she has left. We are not sure how long that will be. We are still considering finding Lizzie a "forever" home if the right person comes along. But, if Lizzie remains in her foster home, they won't complain. She is a pleasure to have around and she is very much loved and well cared for. 6-19-15 - Meet Lizzie!! Lizzie is a very lucky little girl since she came into our rescue pretty much at "death's door". Lizzie was rescued from a NYC high kills shelter where her owner's had brought her in due to excessive urination. Lizzie has been untreated for a UTI which resulted in a HUGE bladder stone. If she did not have surgery the day that she arrived in our rescue, she most likely would not have survived the night. Her kidney's were literally failing due to her bladder being entirely taken up by the stone. Even though she was emaciated and her blood-work left much to be desired...we had to say okay to the surgery to give little Lizzie a chance at life. With the degree of excellent care that she received from our local Emergency Center, Lizzie survived the surgery and is now thriving in one of our foster homes. Lucky Lizzie has been spayed and she is current with vaccinations. She has recently been tested for heart-worm disease and she is negative. Lizzie is micro-chipped. She is still receiving a bolus of fluids, under the skin, on a daily basis to help support her kidneys. She also needs to be kept on a special urinary tract food. But, she is well worth the trouble and may recover to the point where the fluids can be reduced or completely stopped. But, there is a chance that she will need to be kept on the fluids for the rest of her life. Lizzie is about 6-7 years old and she weighs about 14 lbs. We are fairly certain that she is a Schnoodle, although her paperwork says Maltese mix. Lizzie is a happy, active dog and she deserves a "forever" home of her own. Her suggested adoption donation is $300 to help recover a small portion of her vet bills. If you would like to give Lucky Lizzie the kind of home that she deserves, and if you are willing to provide Lizzie with any special care that she needs in the future (blood-work, urinalysis, etc.), please submit our online adoption application at www.OneLifeToLiveRescue.com. A rescue volunteer will be in touch, once your application has been reviewed and approved. Thank you for considering a "special needs", miracle girl like our Lucky Lizzie!!
