Meet CHICA

Meet our little Chica. She is a tiny 6 pound, chocolate Chi about 4 years old.

Star-Mar Rescue received a message on our facebook page from a woman who had a small dog running around at a farm they owned. They would go out periodically and when they were out there they would see this tiny dog hiding around in the equipment. They would leave her food but it most likely wouldn't last through the first night let alone a week or so. As more than a month passed this little dog got thinner and thinner and yet the woman could not catch her.

Armed with hot dogs and knowing that we couldn't leave without her we trapped her, looped her and literally pulled her into safety. Her toe nails had grown into the pads of her feet and she didn't weigh 3 pounds. Just a tiny, hollowed eyes, emaciated little dog that had spent more than a month living in the wilderness on her own. As I pulled out of the drive and headed down the dirt road an owl swooped down and drifted in front of my car for a few minutes. I thanked her for not having eaten the tiny dog that was tucked in a blanket on my lap.

Well that little dog is now slick and shiny and muscled. Chica is a beautiful shade of dark chocolate and gleaming white. Chica came into rescue very unsure; unable to sleep well through the night and not sure who to trust but her little white tipped tail never stopped wagging. Today Chica just needs a spot on your lap to be your best friend. She will continue to blossom as she gets further and further away from her traumatic experience of surviving in the wilderness on her own; hungry and I would imagine very scared. She is house trained, crate trained and walks great on a leash, is fine in the car. She is great with dogs of all sizes, loves to play and race around. She likes men and woman equally. She would be fine with visiting grand children in the home. Chica is a VERY affectionate, Velcro little dog.

Chica's adoption will require a physical fence that is directly accessible to the home and someone that is working less than an 8 hour work day; someone that works from home, works very part time or is retired. Chica will do best with another playful dog.

Chica is with you every minute. She loves to snuggle in bed, loves to be outside sunning in nice weather and loves to race around and play. She loves to chew on her bones and is learning to play with toys. She can still be frightened by sudden movements but her traumatic past is getting further and further behind her. She is not a barker.

If you feel that your lifestyle and environment meet with Chica's needs please contact Martha at learymjri@aol.com or call 330-466-3667 or 330-262-0515 for an application or more information. Chica's adoption will require an approved application and home visit. Chica will need to be place close enough to Wooster, OH for us to do our own home visit with Chica. This will help her to transition better. A radius of about 2 hours maxs. The adoption must be completed with the adopter coming to the foster home. Adoption fee is $250.

PLEASE READ; If you are using a commercial, chemical flea preventative like Trifexis, or Frontline, etc., these are dangerous neurotoxins that poison the life force of your dog (his or her blood) in order to kill a flea. There are serious side effects including seizures and even death from the use of this product. It is so toxic that it is under the control of the EPA, deadly to wildlife, a toxic water pollutant, dangerous to children and pregnant women.. With over 40,000 complaints of sickness and death a year reported to the EPA from the use of these chemical flea products, we feel we can no longer put our dogs in homes who continue to use these products for flea prevention. We do not want our dogs given these products. We are happy to talk with you about natural flea preventatives.
