My Story: My story? Well sit down, 'cause it is not a short one (but the Pet Haven folks say it WILL have a happy ending...)! You see, I lived my whole life with 2 other dogs who were my best friends, and my single owner. Unfortunately, when my owner had to go to assisted living, me and the 2 other dogs had to go to this place called a "shelter". The people there were super nice and treated us well - they even tried to find a home that would take all 3 of us together! - but eventually we all had to find rescue care separately. I ended up at Pet Haven in a really nice foster home. They say I am a very easy dog with a couple of "caveats" - whatever that means. First of all, I have diabetes. The medication for this is only about $30 a month but I have to receive insulin injections twice per day. Secondly, I wasn't socialized super well with my first owner, and added to that all this moving around I have been doing...well...it has left me a bit unsure and fearful of new people and situations. How do I show that? By barking, of course! Duh, I am part terrier! But besides those 2 things I am a really nice, calm girl who loves to hang out with you and go wherever you go! Nap on the couch? Car ride? Walk? Let's go!

Hobbies: I am pretty low-key so a nap in the sun is my idea of a 'good time'.

Commands/Tricks: I know some basic obedience commands but I could definitely use more work and I am extremely smart. The old saying 'you can't teach an old dog new tricks' is SO not true - and I will prove it to you!

Crate / Potty Trained: I am potty trained! I do have accidents when I am in a new home - the people at Pet Haven said it's called a 'transition period' - but they said that is normal. Once I get to know you and your schedule, I potty outside.
My foster parents have opposite work schedules so I'm hardly ever left alone (which I LOVE!), but when I am home by myself I don't get into any trouble and just sprawl out on the couch. My foster parents said they were going to start showing me another place to hang out when I'm alone in case my new family wants me to be comfortable there... I think they called it a 'crate'? I bet I'll like it!

Activity Level: Low - I love to lounge around the house but I also enjoy a good time when you're up for it!

Socialization/who I currently live with: I currently live with 2 adults (male and female) in their single family home. I do great with both adults but due to my fearfulness Pet Haven would prefer I not go to a home where I would have regular interactions with small children; only kids old enough to know to give me some space until I am comfortable with them.

My Ideal Family: I hate to be picky, but I do have some ideas as to what my 'perfect home' would be like. First thing is first - I am NOT going to be an apartment dweller, as I will surely get you in trouble with my adorable 'alert' barking! Like I said, it's what I was bred to do!! Secondly, I need to go to a home that is financially prepared to pay for the small medical fees associated with my diabetes, and with a schedule that allows them to provide me with my twice daily injections. Lastly, I would really like to go to a home that has experience with dogs who weren't super well socialized as a youngster, as Pet Haven wants to make sure that my fearfulness doesn't escalate into something worse than just barking at strangers. I would love someone who knows how to teach me that strangers = good (we are starting this in my foster home, but I just don't know if I believe it yet....)! I know that's a lot but I promise I am WORTH IT! I promise to repay you daily with sweet kisses, playful prancing, and a lifetime of friendship.

Tori will be attending Pet Haven's adoption events. Her adoption fee is $220 (cash or check only) and includes spay/neuter, heartworm check, current vaccinations, and microchip and registration.

Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 60-mile radius of the Twin Cities area.
