Meet Raymond: Adopted!

RAYMOND IS IN A FOSTER HOME

Date of birth: 5/2013

7/16/2015: Raymond is a darling little Yorkie or Silky Terrier mix. He’s 2 years old and weighs 9 lbs. He’s a sweet guy. He loves to run around and play and go for walks. Raymond likes small dogs and cats. He lives with dogs in his foster home. He is house trained and his foster mom says he sits politely and is well behaved.
Raymond prefers women, and so far isn’t too fond of the men he’s met. At our shelter, he was protective in his kennel, but he was very sweet outside his kennel. We would like to place him in a home without kids.

Raymond was picked up by KCK Animal Control as a stray and brought to us because he had bite wounds that needed medical attention. We discovered that he also had severe heartworms and something called Caval Syndrome, which means the heartworms were so numerous that they were in the vena cava of the heart. The specialist at Blue Pearl told us that they rarely see this and usually dogs with this condition die within a couple of days. At the time Raymond was diagnosed he wasn’t eating and was dehydrated, so we caught it just in time and he had surgery that was successful. Lucky dog! Raymond has recovered from surgery and still needs to finish up the normal treatment for heartworms. He’s had one treatment and he’s doing great! He’s also been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

If you’re interested in possibly adopting Raymond, please submit an online adoption form and if he seems like a good match for you we will arrange an appointment for you to meet him at our shelter. We can also fill you in on where Raymond is in his heartworm treatment. If you have a dog you can bring your dog to meet Raymond to make sure they get along before adopting.

MORE ON ADOPTING OUR DOGS...

Please visit our web site at HSGKC.ORG for more information about our adoption process, our adoption fees and all that's included, and for a pet adoption application.

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.

Thank you for searching for a shelter pet!
