Meet Sarge

Meet Sarge!

Sarge is a big, happy, two plus year old pup. We believe he is part Great Dane, and part who-knows-what. He weighs about 80lbs so he is not as big or tall as a pure Great Dane. Sarge loves to play with other young, playful dogs. He can be reactive with pushy dogs, or dogs who are too intense. Sarge's introduction to new dogs should be monitored carefully to assure they are an appropriate match.

Sarge has a genetic issue with his rear legs. It does not affect his ability to run or play! He is essentially knock-kneed and duck footed. It's really quite comical to watch him run and play. Sarge is a sensitive dog and when he is nervous he is very anxious. We have him on medication and he does much better with his fears, but still doesn't like handling at the vet very much and he is terrified of baths!

Sarge is a big goofy boy, who loves to play with toys. Like with so many dogs, caution may need to be exercised in the presence of high valued treats such as a bone. Our recommendation for multiple dog homes is always to offer high valued treats only while dogs are separated, such as in a crate or separate room.

Sarge knows sit and down commands very well and will do just about anything for a treat. He is perfectly house trained, and just needs practice with a front clipping harness to learn to walk really well on a leash. He is active, but not so much so that he wears his human out. He loves to run and play for a short while, and then he's perfectly content to lay on his bed and chew on a nylabone. He'd make a great companion for someone who wants a companion to go for walks in the neighborhood, and teach people that having a minor disability only makes you MORE special! Sarge is not a good choice for a home with small children because he can be hard mouthy when taking treats and he is not respectful of anyone's size. He will bowl over pretty much anyone who is in his way. He is fine with cats, though, because they know to stay out of the way!

Adoption Process: We are not first come first served. Indigo Rescue focuses on finding good matches between dogs and families to ensure life long adoptions. We deliver all dogs to their new homes. All of our dogs are in foster homes. We have a few of our dogs available for meets at the Tanasbourne Petco on Thursdays from 4-7pm and at PetSmart on 185th every other Sunday from noon until 3pm. Or, if you're interested in a particular dog, you can send an e-mail with answers to the questions below via the purple Contact this Organization button at the upper right of the pet's description. Just copy and paste the questions into your email to respond. If the dog seems compatible with your situation we'll set up a time for you to meet the dog.

Do you have other pets now? (briefly describe)
Have you had pets in the past? What became of them?
What kind of exercise will you provide for the dog? (type/frequency)
What is your schedule like? How long/often will the dog be alone?
Where will the dog be while you're gone? Where will the dog be when you're home? Where will the dog sleep?
Who else lives in the home? Do you have children? How old are the children?
Are you in a home or apartment? How long have you lived there? Do you have a fully, securely fenced yard? (type/height)
Do you own or rent your home?
What changes in your life are likely in the next 10+ years (or life span of the dog) and how will the changes affect the dog? (moving, job or schedule change, school, having children)
Anything else you'd like us to consider in finding the right dog for your family?

Indigo Rescue only adopts to homes within 30 miles of Portland because our volunteers deliver all of our dogs to their adoptive homes. We work very hard to create a family of our Indigo Rescue adopters because we want to be close enough to help in case there are any problems. We want everyone to be happy and successful!

Adoption Fees: $250 for adult dogs, $300 for puppies, $200 for seniors.

Thank you for your interest in adopting and saving a life.
