12/20/16 - Queenie wants everyone to know that she is doing well and is still looking for her forever home. Maybe that is what Santa will bring. We have learned a few things and wanted to let you know. That new home will need to near her foster home. She is a very timid little girl that would not do well just being adopted and taken away from her foster home that she took so long to get used to. Queenie takes a while to warm up to new people and things. If her new potential home is close, that would give the opportunity for visits to take place to ease her into her new living situation. This is the only way that she will be able to adjust and thrive with a new foster mom and dad. Children would not be a good idea as Queenie loves the retired, settled life and doesn’t care for activity in the home. She would love nothing more than a mom who just wants to stay at home with her, start the day off with a good breakfast, watch the soaps during the day, play a little, go for a stroll in the neighborhood, take a nap and then up for supper and a movie before turning in again. We know that this home is out there and close to Queenie. Until then she will just continue to reign as Queen(ie) of her foster home.
11/9/15 - Queenie has learned to play! She will come up to foster mom, get in a play bow, and wag her tail. She likes to play with toys; she will play tug of war with foster mom or play with toys on her own. She has become more interested in life; she bounds out the door to chase chipmunks in the yard and really gets excited when it is time to eat. She likes to chew on her nylon bone.
It is amazing how much more she enjoys life in the last month. She is a gem. She loves going for a walk and although loud noises like leaf blowers still kind of scare her, as long as she stays right by foster mom's side, she is brave and keeps walking. Queenie loves to get a belly rub. Queenie wants to sit in foster mom's lap while foster mom is on the computer, so she would be a good fit for someone who works from home. Queenie has come to appreciate humans and the fact that they will supply her with love and attention.
6/14/15 - Queenie is blossoming into a great little dog. She has such an adorable face and a very sweet nature. She learns new things quickly. When she sees another dog in the home do something, like beg for a treat in a certain way, she will try it and then use the behavior in the future. She loves to sit in foster mom's lap; she also likes belly rubs and will stay in foster mom's lap for up to 20 minutes for a belly rub. She is not demanding of attention; she does appreciate any and all attention that she receives.
She will go outside to explore when the other dogs go into the yard, but still uses puppy pads to poop and pee. She likes to walk about a mile every morning. She only barks when the other dogs in the home bark.
She has started to learn how to play and plays with the tiny Yorkie in the house, so another dog in her new home that likes to play would be good for her. She plays with her toys by herself, throwing them into the air and catching them. She will also play chase with foster mom.
When foster mom has lunch outside in the garden, Queenie likes to sit in the sun on the patio with the other dogs. She had such a rough life for her first nine years; she deserves to be loved and appreciated in her forever home. She should be "queen" of the castle in her forever home.
5/28/15 - Queenie has a sweet and gentle nature and needs kind people in her life to help to learn to trust and come out of her shell. She is learning new behaviors from the other dogs in the house and continues to try them out. She has learned that treats taste good once she saw the other dogs eating them.
Queenie came to us a scared little girl. When foster mom goes toward her to pick her up or calls her name, Queenie flattens herself on the ground. After a week in her foster home she is still very scared, but does not always flatten herself to the floor, she just freezes in place; she is learning that people can be good to her.
Her teeth were so painful that she could not eat much. Those nasty teeth are gone now; she lost quite a few in her dental surgery. She was only fed table scraps in her old home so she does not eat from a bowl. She loves the dog food she is fed now and eats it all, so long as you spread it out on a placemat on the floor.
She uses puppy pads for poop and pee; she will go outside to explore that yard but is scared of going in and out of doors so she follows the other dogs to go out. She has been on a few leashed walks and did fine. She only sleeps in a dog bed during the day; when she first arrived, at night she would go under the big bed and hides to sleep so that she felt safe. She has now graduated to sleeping on a comfy blanket under the bench at the end of the bed. We will slowly convince her that sleeping in the big bed with her humans is an awesome way to sleep.
She is slowly learning that being held by foster mom or that sitting in foster mom's lap is a nice thing and actually let her belly be rubbed after a week in her foster home. She does not understand that foster mom will pet her, but she sees the other dogs in the home being petted, so she is beginning to understand that it might be a good thing.
She has discovered squeaky toys and has begun to play with toys a little bit; when the other dogs chase and play it scares her so she goes and hides somewhere. Queenie would do well in a home as an only dog or with another quiet dog. She rarely barks and usually only when the other dogs are barking. She is not aggressive in any way; she was well behaved at the vet even though she had not been to one before. Queenie saw a cat at the vet and went after it; so she does not seem to like cats.
Queenie deserves a loving, quiet home; she is a precious baby with lots of love to give to her people.
