Meet Dom - Loves Toys!

Hi my name is Dominick and I'm looking for that special someone. I'm a 9 lb, 2 year old Jack Russell Terrier and Chihuahua mix. It took me a few hours to warm up to my foster mom, but ever since then I have followed her everywhere she goes. I love when she cuddles and pets me! I also really enjoy when she plays with me. I LOVE toys, any toys are fine by me, I'm not picky. I will raid the toybox and play with them all! I may let out a grumble while playing but that's just because I am so excited. I let my foster mom take toys and bones right away from me with no negative behavior. I also like to rearrange some household items such as the blankets from my crate and maybe a sock or two. Don't those items belong in the kitchen or outside in the yard? Try not to laugh while I drag a full sized blanket past you.

I am an extremely smart dog with very high potential to be trained to do a "job", and my foster mom thinks that I would do great at agility or something like it once I build up my confidence around strangers. I am a shy guy when it comes to people that I don't know. It took me a few days to be comfortable around my foster dad even though he just ignored me. I seem to be more comfortable meeting new people outside of the house. I got to go to the Farmer's Market the other day and I didn't bark once, but I kept my tail down and backed away if anyone wanted to pet me. That's ok though, I let them give me treats instead while they told me how sweet and handsome I am. Because of my fear of strangers, a home without young children would be better for me.

I am good with some dogs, but some dogs rub me the wrong way. My foster mom is bringing me out and about and putting me to the test to try to determine a rhyme or reason to this. I have no issues at all with my foster brother, he's a little older and kind of keeps to himself. I also played with a large puppy inside the dog park and although he was in my face and I was barking at him to back off, it was all in good fun. I like to chase cats, so a home without them would be ideal for me.

I am crate trained and completely house trained. Not one accident at my foster home! That is unheard of! I sleep in my crate quietly throughout the night, and I don't mind sleeping in if that's what everyone else is doing. I walk very nicely on a leash, now that I have figured out that leashes mean we get to go somewhere cool. At first I ran away when the leash came out! Inside the house I will come when called with 100% accuracy! No matter what, if my foster mom calls to me I will be right by her side in an instant.

My ideal owner is a woman or a couple who have the patience to give me the space and time that I need to warm up to people. I will need a lot of positive reinforcement and exposure to social environments as well as a lot of positive encounters with people. Teaching me tricks and agility will help me gain confidence which is key to my being comfortable around strangers and meeting new people in general. I can live with another dog as long as we get along at the meet and greet! The loyalty and love that I bring to the table will be well worth it, I promise!
