NAME: Paige Matthews

AGE/GENDER: ~1 year, Female

BREED: Australian Cattle Dog/Border Collie Mix

TEMPERAMENT: Shy, sweet, high energy

WEIGHT: ~41 lbs

HOUSE TRAINING: Working on it. Can still have accidents. Positive treat endorsement helps with potty training outside.

CRATE TRAINING: She has anxiety that becomes most visible when she's in her crate. At night, Paige is in a gated area. She has about 6 feet of room to go back and forth between a bed and her crate, which she does throughout the night. That makes her most comfortable. She gets kongs and food in her crate to help her become more comfortable.

OTHER DOGS: She lacks doggie social skills and tends to get right in the face of other dogs. We (her fosters and her foster sister, Rogue) are teaching her to introduce herself and ask to play in a less "in your face" manner.

CATS: Untested, but keep in mind she is comprised of 2 herding breeds.

CHILDREN: Dog-respectful children, 12 and older. Paige has some nervousness and does not like to be cornered.

ADOPTION DONATION: $375

HEALTH: Paige Matthews does have a neurological component which is evident in times of stress and anxiety. She will tilt her head and possibly start circling. The higher the anxiety and fear, the higher the head tilt. She will circle with her head tilted at 90 degrees during these times. She is spayed, microchipped, flea treated, dewormed, and is current on vaccines. Your adoption donation goes toward the cost of this vet care as well as transportation and general care costs. In addition, all pets adopted from Motley Zoo come with 30 days of free pet insurance provided by Shelter Care.

HISTORY: Motley Zoo Animal Rescue was asked to find Paige Matthews a great forever family and that is exactly what we plan to do! There is abuse and neglect in Paige's history. She does need a patient and loving family to help her grow into a confident dog.

NOTES FROM PAIGE MATTHEW'S FOSTER HOME: Paige Matthews is a happy and sweet dog, but anxious and fearful. She has a big smile and her tail thumps at the sight of her Foster Family. She loves her people and she loves balls. Her reward is often a ball, instead of a food treat. You will get tired of playing fetch before she does. She loves to play tag and chase with similarly sized foster sister. Paige will be a great running or hiking partner, once she's more confident. She knows sit and come and is working on more advanced obedience skills. Paige is still learning to walk on a leash, as she is fearful of new situations, having been chained her whole life and not exposed to the world. She will need continued socializing and training. We reward good behavior with treats and she's learning quickly. She continues to be nervous (especially if the TV has loud noises). We use Comfort Zone plug-ins, anxiety drops in her food, and calming dog treats at various times to settle her in addition to her pheromone collar. She is hand shy and very fearful of someone grabbing her neck, as we know this has been done to her in the past. She will scream and hide. We are working with her to show her that the world is not a scary place. Even through this, she is still extremely affectionate and loves her people. She will need a family who is dedicated to helping this week girl gain more confidence and truly enjoy all the world has to offer.

Due to her inability to walk on a leash still, a fenced yard is required.

All dogs adopted from Motley Zoo come with a leash and either a Martingale collar or a harness, depending on each dog's particular needs.

Welcome to Motley Zoo Animal Rescue. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit animal rescue organization that is run entirely by volunteers. Motley Zoo does not have a brick and mortar shelter location. Instead, all our rescue animals are cared for in private foster homes where the animals receive one-on-one care and attention in a home environment until permanent placement is found. Please email adopt@motleyzoo.org and request an adoption application and we will work toward approving you as an adopter with our rescue so that we can set a time for you to meet!

Thank you for considering adopting a dog in need!
