9/9/2015: Duke is a handsome 3 year old Shepherd mix. He’s a very sweet guy. He can be a little shy with some strangers but once he gets to know you a bit he’s wonderful and loving. He does this cute “air licking” thing when he sees someone he knows. And he loves to play with squeaky toys!

Duke had been hit by a car and was seriously injured before he was brought to us in January by a kind person who found him. He had a spinal cord injury and could not get up. He slowly but steadily got better over several weeks. He’s now walking very well and just occasionally looks a tad bit tipsy. He's made an amazing recovery, and he even has a happy little prance to his walk now! He enjoys going for long walks now. He walks nicely on a leash and also rides nicely in a car.

If you have a dog we’d ask you to make an appointment to bring your dog in to meet Duke. He gets along with some but not all dogs. He’d probably do best in a home without real young kids.

As if Duke didn’t have enough of a health problem to deal with, he also tested positive for heartworms. But he finished up his treatments recently and is now heartworm free. Duke has been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. He weighs 65 lbs. He’s a wonderful guy, and we are so happy that he's made such a great recovery!

> Our goal is to send you home with a healthy pet and any information and support you may need to help your new pet adjust to his or her new home. All of our dogs & puppies have been spayed or neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, treated for fleas & ticks, tested for heartworms (7 mo. and over), and are on monthly heartworm preventative. Puppies who are too young to receive all the necessary puppy boosters and/or first rabies shot may be brought back to us for those vaccines at no extra charge. You will also receive a leash, collar, coupons for pet supplies and services, toys, and educational materials. And we'll give your dog a bath before he or she goes home!

> Please note that we prefer and may require a fenced yard for many of our dogs. Exceptions are made on an individual basis depending on the dog's needs, the person's dog experience, the dog's and person's activity levels, home environment and other factors.

> An application is required to adopt a pet and applicants must meet our adoption requirements. If you decide you'd like to adopt one of our dogs, we reserve the pet for you but we generally don't send the dog home with you that same day.
