Meet SLATE adoption pending

Slate is a beautiful girl with an unusual coat - we think she is possibly a husky/chow mix or a Shepard/chow mix. She is four years old and looking for a quiet and patient home that will give her the time and love she needs to keep coming out of her shell. Slate is very shy towards people when she meets them and it takes her awhile to warm up, but she is an AMAZINGLY sweet girl. It takes her a good week to two weeks for her to start understanding a new place. During that time, she won't approach you much if at all, and when you approach her she will often head the other direction. She seems to warm up faster to women than she does to men. Once she starts to get to know you, she will want to be in the same room and will start to follow you around, and soon after, she will start to approach you more and more. It helps if you crouch down to her level and make yourself not seem so imposing. In that time, she also doesn't show much interest in eating - her standard meals are dry food with some canned food mixed in. We did try to entice her by making some chicken and hamburger/rice for a little while.

She likes a crate - it is a safe place for her. Her house-training is good and once more comfortable she will whine to let you know that she needs to go out. She sleeps either in her crate (door open) or on a dog bed next to the bed at night. She is very quiet and well mannered in the house. She does well with baths and nail trims. She is spayed and current on all vaccinations.

A few things Slate will consider in finding her new home:

*must have a completely fenced in yard - if she meets people or another dog on a walk right now, she is scared and will want to head the opposite direction.

*good with other dogs - preferred to have another dog to make Slate more comfortable. Must be calmer as Slate does not want to be the constant object of play.

*kids 10 and up - she is afraid of the noise and energy of young kids.

*good with cats

*scared of men wearing uniforms

Could you be the one to help show Slate that the world is not such a scary place?

Sales tax of almost 7% is also included in the adoption fee that you see. Please consider donating to Last Hope to help us save these animals! Can you foster? By taking a dog or puppies into your home temporarily and then coming to our adoption days to help find them homes, we can save more! If interested, please email jsamaste@msn.com and tell us your phone number and what you would like to foster and someone will get back to you! Check our webpage and click the picture of the border collie on the side to learn more about fostering too! "
