Meet Oakley

My name is Oakley and I am an almost 2 year old gorgeous black male labrador retriever. I am a sweet but serious boy. More than anything I love to go for walks, cuddle, ride in the car and just be with my person.

I am crate trained but my foster family doesn’t use it because I am totally trustworthy in the house when left alone. I don’t even know what counter surfing is and the only thing I chew are my nyla bones and elk antlers. I live with two other lab fur sisters and I get along just fine with them, even the sometimes pesky pup. I know that I am the low dog on the totem pole and respect my place in the pack. I also live with two ornery cats (that I suspect have sharp claws) and completely ignore them. My foster family has three fun teenagers but I have also lived and done well with younger kids including a baby. I am a very smart and highly trainable dog and I just want to please. Most recently I pulled my foster mom back down the path on our woods walk because I wanted to retrieve the ski glove she dropped. I was so proud to pick it up and drop it at her feet.

I am UTD on all my shots and have been neutered and micro chipped. There is on other thing you should know about me. I have a condition known as hip dysplasia (loose hips!) – something I was born with. My foster mom has been taking me to physical therapy once a week for laser treatments and to exercise on a water treadmill, and my therapist says I am one of the fastest learners and “clients’ she has worked with. I am feeling pretty darn good (did I tell you I am always up for a walk?!) and I know these walks and therapy will keep me strong and fit and less likely to have complications as I get older (i.e., arthritis). I eat a premium dog food and take over the counter dasuquin to protect my joints, but no other meds are needed.

While I love my foster family, I would really love to find my forever home. I would do best with a family who enjoys the outdoors and can keep me active (but I can’t be your running partner, as much as I’d like to). If you are looking for a faithful and engaging best buddy, you won’t be sorry you chose me.
