Meet Haylee

My name is Haylee and I want to tell you all about me. I am a purebred Chesapeake Bay Retriever and am five years old. I was born in the Willamette Valley and moved to La Grande, Oregon. I am not sure why, but I ended up in the animal shelter. But, along came a young lady who adopted me for what I was, a beautiful loving dog. Now this is not to say, that I did not have some issues. Just recently, my owner could no longer care for me so once again, I became homeless but Best Friends took me in. I am currently living with a professional dog trainer and her two Golden Retrievers. I am finally learning all the basic commands that I missed out on as a pup. I was kept as an indoor house pet with no social skills, so now I am learning to be introduced to other dogs and people and behaving properly. I love people and could quickly become a velcro dog with the right person or family. As much as I enjoy being outside playing, I prefer to be indoors closer to my people and the security they provide. I am learning to walk on a leash with a "gentle lead" and am highly motivated by food and treats so I am learning to not pull so hard. I do like being inside my crate at times because it is my safe space. But, I do not want to become an 8 hour crated dog. I like to go for rides inside a car, not in the back of a pickup. I am considered a dominant alpha dog and am working through some of my issues. My trainer tells me that I can work through my problems with a strong alpha person to remind me with a firm command. I do not do cats. Please do not consider me if you have cats around as I will chase them. My trainers says, "Haylee needs to be around and with her people. She is not happy being left alone outside. Once she gets attached to you, she will be extremely loyal, a good companion and the best of company. Haylee needs to find a forever home as soon as possible as he is missing the love and attention she had from her previous owner. She wants an active family to take her on walks, camping and she loves to swim." Please call Carmen at 541-519-4530 or Best Friends of Baker, Inc. at 541-519-7387 for an application or more information.
