Beaumont came off of the animal control truck looking very rough. He was severely malnourished and beyond skinny. Because he was so malnourished, he developed a bad case of mange. We treated his mange and now his fur is all grown in and he looks so much more comfortable. When I see pictures of him today, it looks like he has a smile on his face. When I met him in Alabama, that certainly wasn't the case. He was calm, yet appeared sad. Not only was he starved for food, he was clearly starved for love. He would try to jump up and hug me whenever I would stop petting him. He would lean up against me and just bow his head as he took in the attention. He always stayed close and was very mindful. Although Beaumont gets along with other dogs, he would probably be best placed at first in a home without other dogs. I only say this because he wants to eat all the other dogs food. He really is hungry all the time. Once he realizes that food will be coming to him daily, he would have to hoard and fend for food. Many dogs think it's their last meal for a while so they try to eat as much as they can, when they can. He will do best with the, "Nothing in life is free" mentality. Meaning, he should sit before being given his food, a biscuit, or even before walking out the door. This is to encourage mindful manners and view you as the decision-maker. Overall, Beaumont is a gem. As soon as I met him, I was so happy that DDR took him into our adoption program. He is going to make some family very happy.

OTHER FUN TIDBITS ABOUT BEAUMONT FROM HIS FOSTER MOM:
He is very inquisitive. He will peek his head around the door just to look and make sure you are there.

He lays down on the kitchen floor with his legs straight out and lifted up so that you can pet his belly. My husband was rubbing his tummy for like five minutes walked into the living room and Beaumont followed him and was like more and plopped down again.

Omg so cute in the snow. He stops every couple steps to stick his nose in it and will come up with a big chunk of snow in his mouth. I think he would be happy to be outside while it's snowing catching snowflakes.

He will watch the other dogs play with the toys but never overpowers them. He will run with them to get the ball but never gets it, he always let's the little ones retrieve it. He's just in it for the fun of it.

He will be a very loyal dog to an owner. He is right by my side watching and just looking to me to make sure he is doing good.

Loves his ears being scratched. Hasn't given kisses yet but you can tell he wants too. He is just very shy and unsure about every move he makes and is always worried he is doing something wrong. He does flinch every now and then when you go to pet him so I'm thinking maybe someone wasn't nice to him :(

Thorough veterinary examination

All routine annual vaccinations, including Rabies, DHLPP, Bordatella (kkennel cough), Heartworm Test, Fecal Test, Deworming

Spay/Neuter

All dogs are quarantined for two weeks outside of the shelter (puppies four weeks) to ensure they don't break with disease.

VETTING NOTE: Double Dog Rescue completely vets our dogs thoroughly to the best of our knowledge based on communication with our Southern Vets. If anything is brought to our attention, we treat the dog. After adopting the dog, you will be responsible for following up with all vetting going forward.

HEARTWORM NOTE: Dogs who were treated for Heartworm can test positive up to 4-6 months after last treatment. All dogs are immediately put on Heartguard/Ivermectin following the treatment to kill the Heartworm larvae. All dogs should be re-tested after 5-6 months from the last Heartworm treatment.
