Meet Betty

Betty looks at life from a different angle!

This past summer during a brutal heat wave, we received a call about a pregnant stray cat wandering a local neighborhood. Did her owners dump her outside when she became in a family way? Was she an already lost kitty who found her herself in a tough spot? We'll never know for sure but she was very lucky to have someone looking out for her.

The caller reported she seemed friendly & looked to be about ready to have kittens. After a few frantic days of trying to catch her, Betty was lured into a carrier with some sardines. And none too soon as she had 3 kittens just days later!

We noticed that Betty had a pronounced tilt to her head & was examined by our vet. Unfortunately because she was nursing her kittens we could not treat with any medications & had to wait until her kittens were weaned to proceed further.

After several courses of antibiotics to rule out an ear infection & no improvement to the head tilt, we had an MRI performed & we are happy to report that she received a clean bill of health - no inner ear infection, tumors or polyps. The head tilt is likely the result of a previous trauma or perhaps an infection that caused some minor neurological affect.

Other than giving Betty an incredibly cute and quizzical look, she suffers no ill effects of the head tilt. The only thing that sometimes is an issue is if you pick her up too fast she gets a little "vertigo" & scrambles to regain her balance.

Betty is an incredibly friendly, outgoing, inquisitive and affectionate young lady who the vet estimates to be between 2 & 3 years old. She has an amazing disposition & would do well with children who are gentle with cats. We do not know how she is with dogs but with her self-assured nature she would probably do fine with cat-friendly dogs. She would probably do best in a home where she is the only cat.

She is also active, playful & loves just about any type of toy that she can get her paws on. Sitting in the window or hanging out on the couch with you so you can scratch her incredibly soft tummy are also favorite past times. She enjoys the company of people, loves everyone she meets and would be an instant family friend! With her self-confident nature she wouldn’t need any “adjustment time” when she goes into her new home. Open the carrier & she’ll make herself right at home!

Betty is spayed, current on her shots, tested negative for Fiv/Felv & is microchipped.

Could you open your heart and your home to this lovely lady who was lucky enough to have angels watching out for her and her kittens?

Please note: Betty is not at PAWS but instead currently in a foster home. If you are interested in her please contact Ilona at ilona@pawsct.org.
