Ernest - Milwaukee, WI Chihuahua Milwaukee, WI

Ernest is a cute, playful, sturdy 5 year old, 10 lb dog. Ernest is pretty friendly, but can be hand shy and unsure of people at times and may growl. He will play fetch if you have kibble to trade for the toy. He likes to run around in the yard and tends to get hyper. He’s a reactive type of a dog and barks at other dogs and people outside. Toning down this hyper reactive state is something that is being worked on. He is leash trained, is a pretty good walker but is still reactive and lunges at other dogs. This is being worked on with positive training. He is a very good treadmill walker and will walk 1 mile a day (his foster mom usually walks too). He has gone on a couple of runs and can run 3 miles without getting tired. He’s certainly not the typical Chihuahua. He gets along with the cat and other Chihuahuas here, but may get growly or grumpy, if they are excited and are too close. Ernest doesn’t play with the other dogs. Ernest has been taught sit, down, stay and leave it with positive food training. He can get grumpy and stubborn, positive food training is a must. He has a lot of energy, is smart and is a dog that needs to be challenged with dog games, kibble balls and learning new things. He can also be a calm dog and likes his dog bed, lying on the couch with his foster mom or chewing on bully sticks. He’s not the type of dog that you can pick up and give hugs and kisses to. He doesn’t use puppy pads, but does go potty outside. Ernest is a calm dog with a high/medium energy level. He would do best in a home with a fenced yard, a treadmill, someone who can let him out during the day, and is active. His new owner must be calm, firm but kind and very experienced in dog training and dog body language.
