UPDATE: RESCUE COMMIT 1/19/15
Salem is a pug mix female found as a stray on 5th Ave North on 10/29/14. She weighs 12 pounds. She is very sweet but a little scared being in the shelter. She LOVES to be in a lap and give kisses. She is very submissive to Arthur and is fearful of other bigger dogs. She is a sweet loving girl. She does growl at the shelter cats. She has a cherry eye in her right eye that will need attention at the vets office once adopted.

While she is better than Arthur at accepting humans, she is still far from a cuddly little dog. Still anxious and startles easily, she too no longer wolfs down her food but calmly eats without finishing it all at once. She too has gained weight and will almost walk out of the kennel into the arms of the vols if we aren't careful. Again we hope to get her out in the next few days for better photos. She has a cherry eye in one eye that does not appear to be bothering her at the moment, but it will need further attention at the vet after adoption. Our problem is going to be safely catching them up to put back in the kennel once we get them out. We are working on it. While she will probably be more ready for adoption before he is, the problem with that is Arthur is so much better with her in with him. We are almost afraid if she is adopted or rescued without him that he may revert to his earlier behavior. Hence we want them to go together either via adoption or rescue.

ID No. 310 Available to adopt 11-3-14. Available to rescue 11-4-14. Possible euth date is 11/12/14.

By TN state law stray dogs are held for 3 days so they can be found by their owners before being put up for adoption. Rescues are allowed to pull dogs on the day after they are put up for adoption. A dog found as a stray wearing a collar is held for 5 days before it is put up for adoption, and on the 6th day is available to rescue. Our shelter is a first come first adopt/rescue facility.  There are no holds placed on dogs for potential adopters/rescue. They are available at 7am on the day they are available.
The current adoption fee is $71 which includes the dogs spay or neuter, Rabies vaccination, and Distemper/Parvo vaccination at a local vet. .  Dogs are given 2 weeks to find a new home and due to limited space and resources are given a two week euthanasia date on intake.
