Meet Jack

Jack: 10 1/2 Year Old Spayed Black Male Neutered Lab 90 lbs.

Hi! I’m Big Black Jack and I’m looking for a special family to let me into their home and their hearts. Through no fault of my own, my family had to surrender me to the Humane Society because they lost their home. I lived with kids and love them! In fact, I love all people. I’ve met several dogs at the shelter and was very excited but appropriately friendly. I was pretty interested in the cats I saw at the shelter so I’ll probably do best in a home without cats. Though I’m a “Retriever,” I’m not all that into chasing the ball (maybe when I lose a few pounds that will be more fun!). And as a Lab, I definitely have a fondness for food and other chewy toys, maybe a little too much. Sometimes I get upset about sharing my favorite chews, so I should probably live with a family with mature kids over 13. Hey I have an idea – it’d be great if my whole new family can work with me to learn to share happily by trading favorite treats for chewys I would rather not share. I’m currently in a foster home with this incredibly nice trainer and I’m sure she could show you some tricks of the trade.

I am a very good boy who would like to enjoy my golden years with someone who likes to go for a few walks a day, who loves to rub my belly and who wants to be my new best friend.

Though I’m a senior dog, please consider adopting me. I come with so many great benefits – you know what you’re getting, I’m house-trained, I promise not to chew up your house and I’m pretty darn mellow. And mostly, I’d so appreciate you taking a chance on me that I’d smile and give you sloppy kisses all day.

What Jack’s foster has to say: "I’ve only had Jack a few days but so far so good! Jack seems to be a very happy guy and is pleased to be in a home environment again. He has surprised me on how puppy-like he becomes when it’s time for our walks and, of course, at dinner time too. He gets along well with my dog although when my dog plays fetch Jack gets very excited and wants to bark at him but isn’t aggressive. On walks he is a bit strong so I’ve started using a correction collar and that really seems to help with the pulling. I’m surprised how quickly he is picking up on the training. I’ll be happy to work with his new owners to keep Jack on the right path during his golden years! Overall, Jack is a sweet dog and I am enjoying spending time and training this big lovable guy!"

What Lab Rescue is looking for: Jack is a wonderful dog who has had a few bumps in the road lately. We want him to go to a home where someone can be around most of the day with him, someone who will continue with his training and who will get him out for regular exercise to lose some of those extra pounds. Jack is healthy, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative and micro chipped. Jack is located in Santa Rosa.

If you have the time for this sweet boy and want him to be a part of your family, please contact Rescue Rep Candace @ (415) 860-5456.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
