Photographers Update: September 15
I had the chance to meet Ben yesterday to take his photos. He is absolutely gorgeous. His foster mom has really done a brilliant job with this boy, he was exceptionally friendly and full of kisses for me. He may not be a "cuddler" per se, but he is very affectionate.

His recall was excellent and he sat when I asked. Does he march to the beat of his own drum?... I expect sometimes he does, but he was great for me. He demonstrated his playful and energetic nature and I had a ball with him. He was very good when small dogs to medium sized dogs went by and apparently is friendly with the neighbour's smallish dog. No large dogs went by so I can 't comment on that.

He seems like he would be a very trainable dog to me. He had a rough start and getting him settled into a forever home would be a great next step towards refining the fantastic Jack inside. I think he'd respond very well to a training course too. I LOVE this guy. Did I mention his beautiful plume-like tail and colouring (brown, cream and shades of grey!). Such a heartthrob. ♥

FOSTER MOM UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 10
Ben continues to grow and his challenges improve with trust and time. He walks very nicely on the leash. His biggest issue is bigger dogs, he just doesn't like them and so I need to be aware when we are walking. He waits very patiently for treats and takes them gently when offered. He's learning to cuddle more, but he's not a super cuddly boy. He's such an entertaining little guy (I still can't get over his love affair with the squirrel toy!). In a Jack savvy home he will shine!

OSTER MOM UPDATE: August 28
Ben is the kind of guy who can totally amuse himself. He is quite happy to play on his own and entertain you. He is very gentle when he takes treats and waits patiently for them. He knows sit, stay and down, but sometimes he chooses to ignore them, he's a typical Jack, a wee bit stubborn :)
He's doing really well at my house, he has mild separation anxiety but I can leave him uncrated when I am out and he is completely housetrained. He is coming around to cuddles, but he is so comfortable in his own skin that he's really just happier with a good scratch and a pat! Overall he is such a great little man, fun to watch and a real entertainer, until the camera comes out. He's a bit camera shy :)

Hi I'm Ben! I'm the real deal, an energetic young Jack at 4.5 years. I'm just a big puppy at heart. I would like to go to a home where you really understand Jacks. I may be cute, but I need someone to help me be a "super" Jack. I don't like big dogs, and I'm not even fussy for little dogs. So I'd like to be in a home where I'm the only 4-legged. I also have a big fenced yard on my wish list because I'm happy happy when I can stretch my legs…and chase squirrels!

I'm very good at amusing myself with my toys and guess what my absolute favourite is!…My squirrel! I also really likes to chase a ball but why would I give it back if you keep throwing a perfectly good ball away! I love to go for walks too, but I get soooo excited that it takes mom a while to get me calm so she can put my leash on. She makes me calm down first, then we go and then she says I'm a good walker. Just walk me where there aren't other dogs, that can be a bit distracting.

Mom says I'm a bit quirky. For example, I like to put my squirrel in my bowl of food before I eat. Mom says it's cute, I just like to keep an eye on him. I'm also not a talker per se, I use little noises to make my point, some humans misinterpret that. I also will let you know when it's time for you to stop brushing me or whatever. Like I said, I'm pretty independent!

I'm not too sure about all this cuddling that you humans like to do, if you let me on my terms and time, then I might be more into it with time. That being said, I do like sit beside you. At night in bed I like sleeps at the end of the bed. But if you move around too much I'll get grumpy, jump off the bed and go to my own bed. In the morning, after I've had my break, I do love to come back to bed and sleep beside you though. I reckon I'm a morning dog.

Now you probably know that a "real" Jack is super energetic and stubborn, and I reckon I'm the poster child for a real Jack. I am a really nice boy, but I want a family that totally understands my kind that so that we don't have any misunderstandings. A nice patient, loving family would be my dream. I really do have love to give, but I really have to trust you first. Do you think you are the right family for me?
