AJ Dachshund Mix Athens, GA

AJ is a little dachshund mix that weighs about 12 pounds and he won’t get any bigger! His little legs are here to stay! AJ is both housebroken and crate trained and that will really help his transition into a new home.

AJ lives with other small dogs and he loves to play with them. One of his favorite things to do is run around in the backyard and play with his puppy friends! When he meets a new dog, he likes to make sure that everyone is still friendly and wants to play and then he is good to go! Inside, he can be a little protective of his crate and food – we are teaching him that it’s okay to let other dogs around them. But whenever he is just in the family room playing, he is happy go lucky. He has only barked, but we are teaching him to share. He just likes his space when he is with his things. He wasn’t really socialized as a puppy by his previous family so he is meeting lots of new animals and people and really loving it!

AJ has meet people of all sizes and does well with them. At our adoption days, he is happy to be petted and get belly rubs from anyone! He occasionally can be shy when he’s out on a walk and meets a stranger, but he gets over it quickly and is his goofy self in no time! He bonds very tightly with his family and can sometimes be a little protective of them like he is of his crate and food. We are working on that also, but like a lot of small dogs, he can sometimes think he’s bigger than he is! He is really just a sensitive little guy and needs more time and socialization. Because he is still learning in this area, we think he would be best with older kids. He really loves his family and is happy to go everywhere with you! We will continue to let him meet new people and we are confident he will continue to love it all!

Being close to a year old, AJ still has a little bit of puppy energy but he seems to do well with just some short walks and playtime. He really does love to run and wrestle with the other dogs! The short walks are enough since his little legs have to work twice as hard! Once he has had his playtime, he does like some quiet time too.

Life is a big game for AJ and he makes everyone laugh with his goofy side! He would love to have another small dog to play with at home and a family that wants to snuggle and have fun!
