Meet Gino

Gino is a great dog! We're not sure why he's been overlooked at our shelter other than people think he is a bit shy, which is true for about 5 minutes. He is about 10 lbs. and has been very playful with other small dogs.

He's been in a foster home for only a few days and his foster parent reports that while he was a little shy and avoided eye contact at first, after just a few hours he was following her around from room to room and smiling at her with a wiggly bottom. He has been getting many walks, which Gino loves but isn't used to since his previous owners didn't even let Gino outside except in the summer! It's no wonder he's a little shy at first...imagine not being let outside for 3/4 of the year...never seeing people or other dogs, or the blue sky! Poor guy! As a result of that treatment, he was trained to go to the bathroom in the house on pee pads. So he seems confused about why he is suddenly expected to go to the bathroom outside. This is easily something he can be trained out of, and so far he has been doing great, and he has not had any accidents in the house. He is super sweet and a totally affectionate pal. He likes to play fetch (with a mini tennis ball!) and other games. He is also goofy...he likes to chase bees and unfortunately for poor Gino, he has caught one or two...ouch! He walks well on the leash, and has not displayed any aggression toward any of the many people he has met so far in and out of the shelter. A family member in the foster home said "he has the greatest face...doesn't it just make your day a little better to look at that sweet face? He's such a good boy." We agree! He has let neighborhood kids pet him and while he looks a little put upon with that, he has tolerated it fine. He gets along well with some dogs and avoids others, but has not displayed any aggression toward the other dogs he's met. He rides well in the car in his bed and seems to be crate trained as far as his foster parent can tell so far. He is not destructive or yappy in the house at all but is a good protector inside, barking once or twice rarely when he sees or hears a suspicious noise. He is eager to please and is food driven for sure. All around, this is a special boy and it is his turn to find the right, loving forever home.

If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out the dog adoption application on this page of our website: http://medfieldshelter.com/dog_applications/new

Our dog adoption fee for dogs 6 years old or younger is $350. Every dog we place is vaccinated, wormed, treated for ticks/fleas, and spayed/neutered prior to adoption. We send each dog home with a collar and leash and a month's worth of heartworm preventative.
With very few exceptions, dogs are happiest and the most well-behaved when they receive daily exercise and ongoing training, so we always prefer to place our dogs with families who are willing to make a commitment to both.
All adoption meetings are by appointment only as we only have one employee. Our manager or one of our volunteers will be happy to set up an appointment for you to come meet the pets, but please fill out the adoption application first.
