My Story: I am a happy-go-lucky gentle giant. I was surrendered to the Martin County Humane Society after escaping from my yard and my owner did not want to come “bail me out.” Apparently, I am quite the escape artist and can open kennel latches, household doors and windows. Which seems odd because I am about as laid back as any dog can be and am happy just lying around all day long. But due to separation anxiety, when my people leave I get a little anxious and will try to leave the premises to go look for them if given the opportunity. Fortunately, my foster family has a secure finished basement that I haven't been able to break out of yet. Furthermore, I get along with just about any dog I meet. I am a little slow to warm up to big, dominant male dogs, but my foster family has a very “snooty” dominant female English bulldog who I get along with just fine. They say if I can get along with her, I should be able to get along with just about any other dog. My foster family also says that I am the easiest dog they have ever had the pleasure of taking care of…so if you’re looking for “easy-going,” that’s me!

Hobbies: Belly scratches, naps on the couch, walks, playing ball, swimming, car rides and hanging out with my people.

Commands/Tricks: Sit, Lie Down, and Shake

Crate/Potty Trained?: 100% Potty trained. He does not like to be in a crate.
Activity Level: Low…very laid back. He likes to go for walks and will chase a ball, but is just as happy to lie around as well. He does have a limp in his right front leg from mild arthritis, but gets around and does stairs just fine. We are currently supplementing his diet with glucosamine and chondroitin to help support his joints.

Fun Things I Do/Quirks: My foster family loves how I happily greet them when they come home and how excited I get when we go for walks or car rides. Or the way I take up the entire love seat when I stretch out for a nap and how I like to pretend I’m a lap dog and sit on my fosters when they’re petting me.

Who I Currently Live With: My foster family consists of one adult female, two teenage girls and two female English bulldogs.

My Ideal Family: Due to my separation anxiety, I would fit in best with a family who has someone who is home a lot. (A retiree, in-home daycare, stay-at-home mom or someone who works from home.) I am super easy to please. I just want to be around my people so the more time you can spend with me, the better. I am very tolerant so would get along with kids of all ages. I don’t require a fenced in yard. I like to lie around the yard when outside with my people, but still need to be supervised because I might wander off if I catch an interesting scent or see something worth investigating. I do not bark and I like all people so any type of dwelling with a secure area for me to stay when you need to leave me alone will work just fine. But keep in mind I am big so you’re going to need at least a full size bed if you want some snuggle time with me!

Hooch will be attending Pet Haven's adoption events. His adoption fee is $220 (cash or check only) and includes spay/neuter, heartworm check, current vaccinations, and microchip and registration.
Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 60-mile radius of the Twin Cities area.
