Meet Cisco

Name: Cisco
Breed: German Shepherd Dog
Age: 18 months – 2 years
Gender: Male/Neutered
Weight: Approximately 85 lbs
Location: Sierra Vista, AZ (Arizona adoptions only)
Children: over 5-years-old

Cisco was brought into the local shelter by his owners to be euthanized. The previous owners found Cisco through a Craigslist ad two months before. He was kept in the backyard and not allowed in the house, ever. The owners had nothing nice to say about Cisco except that he was dog friendly. It was apparent that Cisco was not viewed as anything other than an inconvenience. He was very underweight, scared to death of his own shadow and smelled like a cesspool. Prior to leaving the shelter we had to bathe Cisco three (3) separate times. The poor boy was saturated in his own urine and feces!! Once home with our pack of German Shepherds, Cisco began to relax. We began training and socialization once he was established in our home and have continued to address various delinquencies in his social skills.

Cisco is a loving yet timid dog, who is still trying to become a more confident dog. He has overcome many obstacles such as building trust with his handler, regardless of who it might be. He is very dog friendly and seems disinterested in cats. Cisco enjoys some play time with children so long as they have been taught proper interaction with dogs. Although behind the curve with some things such as knowing how to play with other dogs, Cisco has proven to be an overall good dog.

If you are looking for a sweet tempered and affectionate dog, Cisco might be right for you. He does prefer his alone time, whether in a kennel or a quiet spot elsewhere in the house, at times. Since we don’t know Cisco’s breeding history, nor how he came to end up on Craigslist, we will never know the truth to his timorous behavior. Cisco takes patience as he fluctuates from a very confident dog who is jovial and willing to please, to a more fearful dog who rather be in his kennel than beside his handler. It is essential that whoever adopt Cisco, take part in training with our current trainer. The adoption fee will go toward a training package specific to Cisco’s needs.

Cisco is not a guard dog, nor will he be adopted to parties which keep their dogs outside only. He is crate trained, housebroken, dog door trained, leash trained and know basic commands. He gets along with other dogs and children over 5yo and seems okay with cats. As with any rescue, he has some things he is still working to improve. No matter the situation, Cisco seems to gradually overcome new experiences.

Adoption process includes application/questionnaire, initial meet and greet, home inspection and 24-48 hour trial sleepover prior to adoption finalization. This process works for both parties to ensure the right fit for both dog and adopting family.

Cisco is up to date on his vaccines and Microchipped. His adoption fee is $150. If you are interested in meeting Cisco please email Diane & Jerry at bulldoggelove@live.com to request an application.
